Informing OSFS about Scholarships

Hi, I've been accepted into UT and got a pretty decent financial aid package. In order to accept the package you have to do some stuff including any external scholarships that you'll be receiving. I am currently applying for a couple scholarships and was wondering if I have to notify the financial aid office that I am applying, or if I notify them after I have been awarded the scholarships (if I get them).

Since I won't find out the results of these scholarships for a while, I doubt I'll have to put them down now to accept my package. It's still something that troubles me though. I would think this is a question that has been asked before so if it's been answered somewhere else such as on the forums or the UT site could somebody redirect me? Doing a search for "scholarships" as one would expect brought up many unhelpful threads.

One more thing, if I do receive a scholarship later on, what part of my fin. aid package will be reduced if it will be (work study/loan/grant/scholarship)?

Also I've read FINANCIAL AID: How Non UT Scholarships are Processed which helps a little. Thanks everyone.

No, don’t tell them until you are actually awarded a scholarship.
And I believe the first part of your package to be reduced is the grants.

Since by getting scholarships grants will be reduced, should I even bother applying for scholarships? At what point will loans get to be reduced? Hopefully not until they’ve reduced all grants to zero.

Does anyone know when the national merit notifications are sent out? On my be a longhorn page a while back it said I should recieve something in the mail but it never came?
