Ingram/Chancellor's/CV Scholarships

Hey! I'm planning to apply for all of the Vandy merit scholarships next year. I was wondering, if I get to the finalist round for the Ingram Scholarship, does that increase my chances of getting the Chancellor's or CV scholarship? My friend recently told me that he was a finalist for the ingram scholarship, but he didn't get in and didn't apply to any of the other merit awards, so I was just wondering.

Being selected for one award does not increase your chances at the others. However, being selected does indicate that you have a particularly strong profile, so it may be more likely that you are selected for others.

Thanks for the response. Also, do you know approximately how many people are awarded the Chancellor’s and CV scholarship each year?

my notes say 20 chancellors, and about 230 of the CV and Ingram. sorry I cannot be more specific. My memory is saying 125 CVs, but I can’t confirm that.

53 Chancellors and 130 CV offers were made for 2013

I am excited. Got the mail about Chancellor’s Scholarship. Two quick questions:

1) National Merit Scholarship from Vandy. <a href=“Additional Merit Scholarships | Scholarships | Vanderbilt University”>http://www.vanderbilt.edu/scholarships/additional.php</a> says that “we guarantee an additional $2,000 in National Merit or Achievement total scholarship dollars per year”. I am a NMF so if I designate Vandy as my 1st choice school, I get full tuition plus the extra $2000 towards my Room and Board etc ?

2) If I receive any 3rd party merit based scholarships, can they be stacked or used for my non-tuition expenses or will those scholarships will be used in lieu of some portion of the Chancellor’s scholarship ?

TIA

Congratulations on your news re the Chancellor’s Scholar invitation. I do not know the answer re your NMS…if it goes away since you have full tuition or not…you should sent a note of gratitude and a request for clarification to the Financial aid officer tomorrow. Our son was a Chancellor’s Scholar but only commended in NMS.

@Faline2 Thank you . In my excitement it didn’t even occur to me to send a thank you letter to VU. So glad you are here to guide us.

so happy for you and your family. I vaguely think that NMS 2 grand is not added to recipients of CVs and Chancellors but could be wrong. Any need beyond tuition that is justified by your estimated cost of attendance will be met. If you dig into the financial aid web pages online, the answers may be there or on the signature merit pages, or recent recipients may post here on this subject.

How did you find out about the Chancellor’s? Email, snail mail, or the portal?

@bananarama15 - I got the MOSAIC package by snail mail and the Chancellor’s letter was part of the package. I got a followup email on Friday

When do notifications about CV scholars come out? I heard from another place that its early March usually?

@yetanotherid, double congrats on your CV and MOSAIC. So far, you are the only one reporting getting CV on cc.

Does not getting a CV with MOSAIC mean that DS will not get CV in March?

@4beardolls - I got the Chancellor’s not CV - I don’t think anyone has reported getting a CV yet.

@yetanotherrid, I am sorry for misreading your post!!! I will start wearing my glasses when reading cc. :-B. Since we are on the topic. What is Chancellor’s letter?

@4beardolls

I think the Chancellor’s letter would be indication of winning the Chancellor’s scholarship. (Vanderbilt has 3 premier scholarships – CV, Chancellor’s, and Ingram.) CV won’t come out for a little longer.

@nhdmaniac, thanks. I will continue to hope for the arrival of DS’ CV letter.
Good luck to everyone.

Another thread says CV in past years went out as early as March 5 and as late as March 9.

Hey guys. Congrats to everyone who was awarded scholarships! Vanderbilt is a great place and you should definitely considering coming here.

As a Vandy student and Chancellor’s Scholar, here are some things I will try to clear up.

 1. You will only be offered one of the signature scholarships. i.e. If you are offered Chancellors you will not also be offered CV.
 2. National Merit money is awarded $2000 extra per year on top of full tuition. This is applied to things such as housing and meal.
 3. Any outside merit scholarships are applied to these expenses as well. They are not eaten up by any merit aid given. However, need based aid does lower if you receive outside scholarships. If you were to have more scholarships your first year than your first semester room/board and food costs, you can use this money for books and/or eating out on the student card.
