Congratulations you received the Ingrams Scholarship then the adcom rejects you. NEVER, not going to happen. It would be poor form, terrible PR, and a waste of everyone’s time. Heads would be cut off if the adcom did this to an Ingrams Scholar.
The Ingrams Scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards in the country. Congratulations to the semi-finalists.

My understanding is that the Ingram Scholarship Committee is separate from the Admissions office. Perhaps they see which semi-finalists they want to advance and then cross-reference with admissions to make sure they have the grades, test scores, etc. to be successful at Vanderbilt. I also would guess that the semi-finalist screening is important to ensure that these kids are “for real.”

If they see something during the finalist period that doesn’t gel, I could see them foregoing admission, however unlikely. But if you’re offered the scholarship, admission is guaranteed.

I know this is a childish question but was the interviewer nice? Or intimidating or something? I have both my interviews today and I’ve never done a Skype interview before so I’m a little nervous

Go into the interview with happiness, and do not worry about the outcome. Have a good opinion of yourself and the people where you grew up who inspired you. Present your high regard for the person who interviews you who cares about the Ingram program, and has traveled their own journey with Vanderbilt as part of who they have become. You do not have to be more than you are today. Let the interviewer know what qualities you will carry with you to your college home that would bring energy and genuine effort to the Ingram program. After all, the next 1600 students who will matriculate to Vanderbilt all bring something from their own values and family and community to four years at Vanderbilt. Think of how Vanderbilt’s academic program will be accessed by your goals for yourself and speak to that. Embrace the interview. Life at Vandy or your future home college will have surprises but you do bring something specific with you. There will be many interviews to come in your life. This one is a privilege. The interviewer only wishes you the best no matter how the selection process proceeds. Best wishes!

Goldiblox, the interviewer was very nice. He was a professor at the university and involved with the scholarship program. Regarding the whole admissions question he said that although being a semi-finalist does not guarantee admissions the Ingram scholarship office can be an advocate for a student in the admissions process. I agree with other posters that it seems highly unlikely they would not offer admissions to a semi finalist (and they must have already looked at their stats) but my daughter is adamant that we not assume she will be admitted. She has another interview this Saturday with a local alum. Goldiblox, just relax and let your passion for service shine through!

All very good advice! The alum interview my daughter had was very conversational. She was able to hear a lot about the program from the alum (who was an Ingram Scholar). The other interview was with the program director and he had specific questions (I’m guessing he probably gave to all semi finalists.) Neither interviewer felt intimidating, very kind and just wanting to get to know her better. Best of luck.

Thanks for the answers everyone! It helped so much! My interviews went really well, especially the alum interview. The program director interview was very short compared to the alum interview but it was good too.

Good job Goldiblox!:)

GeorgeBailey thank you!

How likely is it that an Ingram scholarship semi finalist is not offered admission?

I’m sure there are no stats published regarding that, but my guess is that 100% of semi-finalists are admitted. just wouldn’t make sense for them not to be.

That makes me so happy. I hope it’s true

I hope it’s true, too, goldi!

My guess is that unless you bombed your first semester senior grades or got arrested (LOL) or simply didn’t represent who you really are in your application, you would have a better than good chance of being admitted.

I so hope all the CC’ers make it to the finalist round! It will be so nice to have this community together.

Next week is going to be a nailbiter!

go2mom, do you think they will narrow it down to the 10-15 finalists next week and let us know who they are? Regardless of the scholarship, I hope all of these wonderful kids on cc get admitted!

I recall my daughter saying they wanted interviews to be complete by the 25th and that they would let them know the following week. Since many will be traveling, they will need to make flight arrangements and that would mean just a little over a two week period to get the best flight. So my guess is that they will be notified next week.

Has anyone heard anything? They told my son that they’d let him know by February 1st at the latest.

Nothing here. :(

The school said “by February 1st” so emails should go out today. Good luck everyone!!

My daughter just got the email! She’s a finalist!

Very excited for you and your daughter!

congratulations, go2mom! that’s great.
