Ingram Scholarship?

Has anyone heard anything about the Ingram Scholarship yet? I'm pretty sure we are supposed to find out mid-January?

I'm hoping we find out soon, too. The Vanderbilt Merit Scholarships site says they notify finalists in late January and hold the interviews on campus in mid-February, so it may be a couple more weeks before anyone finds out. crosses fingers

i guess the notify u by the USPS right?

Not sure how they notify if you are a finalist ... but they send you an email if you are not.

Does anyone know how many apply for this?

I can't remember exact numbers, but D applied & didn't get it last year. The email told how many applied ... it was A LOT!!!!! She saw the number applied & the number awarded & said she didn't feel too bad, because there were FAR more who applied than received the scholarship. Last year's info gave the stats for those who typically received the award, so I imagine the group who went through the application process was pretty much self-selected to begin with.

A young lady from our local high school applied and did receive an on campus interview. She had incredible credentials which ended up helping her land a Coca-Cola scholarship and many other honors. When she didn't receive the Ingram, she discarded plans to attend Vanderbilt and matriculated to Harvard (although she is taking a gap year to do international volunteer work).

Does anyone have any information regarding the interview visit..what happens over the 2 days...thanks

I hesitate to answer because of limited knowledge, but my D lived with an Ingram Scholar last year and I understand that they are involved in the interview process with applicants during that campus visit. Also, I learned from D's experience with suitemate that students can apply for an Ingram Scholarship once that are at Vanderbilt. You don't necessarily have to receive this honor as an incoming freshman. So much has changed related to scholarships that I hope that hasn't changed and I'm not sharing incorrect information!

Thanks...do you what happens at school during the visit? What do they do over the 2 days?...

Hey, I'm a semi-finalist!

woah! crazyazn... give us some details please! how did you get notified? what does the letter say?

hey john, i got an e-mail from the program, saying that i am a semi-finalist and that there are 40 selected out of a pool or roughly 700. Then after that, they will narrow it down to 23, whom I assume will be flown to Nashville for some interviews. I'm really excited cuz I really love Vandy! If you hav any more questions, I'd be glad to chat. I'm always on AIM: Indianboy975.

crazyazn, Congratulations!

I am asking just out of curiosity (as my son is already a student at Vanderbilt), but how is the pool of 40 reduced to 23? Do you submit more materials? Are you sure they are not bringing all 40 to Nashville for an interview?

How many Ingrams are awarded in the end?

Also, are the Ingrams distributed around all of the undergraduate schools (A and S, Engineering, Blair, and Peabody) or is the particular school irrelevant?

hi midmo, i'll try my best to answer some of ur questions. It seems that the pool is just reduced through the materials already submitted, you don't need to submit anything else. I guess they just tell u that ur one of the 40 as an "update." I am pretty sure that it is these 23 that go to nashville. Not sure how many are awarded in the end, maybe 12-15 with the anticipation that some won't take to offer (though I know I will!) Also, I am pretty sure they take the most qualified applicants, with no regard to what school u applied to (but i applied to A and S). Hope this helps!

crazyazn, I got the email yesterday too :) needless to say I was crazy excited. do you have any idea when the notifications about the 23 finalists come out? the ingram part of the merit scholarship site has a different timeline than the one on the ingram site.

that's true, the timelines are a bit confusing. I think they will tell us in about 10 days. The "interviews" hav no effect on our standing, i guess it all rests on the stuff sent. Did u email the graduate student? If so, has she responded?

oh and i am really excited too about the ingram!!!!

do they notify you regardless...or just if you are a semi-finalist

Last year, everyone was emailed (even those who were not named semifinalists). I think the "no" emails came out within a day or two of the yes ones.
