xiggi, what is up with 2015 below?

Oh, just forgot to update last line. It is, of course, 12.6 percent. In a cynical way, my figure is probably just as true.

By the way, I think the specialty schools should be listed separately.

Sorry, but your assertions here are utterly belied by the actual data. For each of the last 7 years, Penn has consistently accepted around 1,150-1,200 applicants through the ED process, out of a total entering class of 2,400-2,500. And the resulting percentage of the entering class admitted through ED has also remained consistent, at just below 50%.

Furthermore, while this year’s number of ED applicants did set a record at 4,557, Penn actually admitted FEWER ED applicants this year (1,195) than it did last year (1,200). And incidentally, the number of ED applicants last year did not set a record–not by a long shot.

Here are the actual Penn ED numbers (class year/ED applicants/ED admits):

2015/4557/1195
2014/3851/1200
2013/3666/1156
2012/3929/1147
2011/4001/1178
2010/4120/1181
2009/3420/1169

Is USC anywhere?

it is listed in post #41

Well, I don’t know about “utterly belied,” but thanks for the correction. I didn’t have the longer run of data; I did know Penn’s ED applications were up for the class of 2014 over the previous year, and that they had a record number of ED admits in 2014. My mistake was in thinking this was part of a longer term trend, when in fact the ED pool had previously peaked and then declined a bit before going back up again for the class of 2014.

As for the 50% of Penn’s class admitted ED, I take that as a pretty clear refutation of santeria’s and ewho’s claim that if you fill a large percentage of the class ED, RD applications will decline. Clearly not Penn’s experience as their RD pool continues to grow despite an exceptionally large percentage of the class filled ED. Most colleges can’t come anywhere near filling 50% of their entering class from the ED pool. But as the data submitted by a variety of posters show, many (but not all) schools are seeing substantial growth in their ED pools this year, and if the stats of those ED pools hold up, I still think we’ll see many of them admitting a larger percentage of their class ED, for all the reasons I previously stated. Penn, on the other hand, may have decided to hold the line at 50% of the entering class, since despite an 18.3% increase in the ED pool they held the number of ED admits virtually constant (1195 for 2015 v. 1200 for 2014, a trivial difference).

^ menloparkmom,
I’m not sure what purpose is served by posting a list that omits some of the data points from previously posted lists.

sorry, I was copying from an earlier post . did not see post 41 until just now. no harm intended!

bclintock, what did menlo change/ommit?

please take some time to think a little before you make such bonehead moves…

why don’t you delete your list while you still have time to do it?

Aren’t be getting silly including schools with 75% and over acceptance rates? Surely there must be a community college somewhere that accepts 99.99% of its applicants. Should be include that school also?

Good Grief. A little snobby, aren’t we? It’s information, that’s all. What’s the big deal?

I didn’t realize this message board was the equivalent of the Solvay Conference.

^^^^agree.

personally I find it interesting and informative that schools such as these have such high acceptance rates:

Actually, I’m trying to be pragmatic. A lot of the nation’s thousands of colleges will admit almost everyone with a pulse and a diploma or GED. Do we really want a list that’s two or three thousand lines long?

japanoko, how about you chill out some. there is no need to be rude to other CC posters.
It was an honest mistake and I had to go to work, unlike some people apparently…
