Who else got in to the Innovation Academy? I am beyond shocked, I’ve been sick with anxiety all day and expected a rejection.
Congratulations! Sounds like a cool program. My D’s a fall admit, but I had read about the Innovation Academy and liked the concept. So happy the waiting is over. Go Gators!
I got accepted to UF but where do I learn about the IA decision?
@Avibuzz My decision stated IA acceptance.
“Congratulations! After a careful and thorough review of your application, we are pleased to offer you admission to the University of Florida Innovation Academy beginning 2019 Spring semester.”
Congrats @annabanabelle ! Each summer and fall, several “pre-IA” students enroll at Santa Fe College to earn a few college credits before beginning classes at UF in the spring. Tuition is less expensive, and class sizes are smaller at SF, but the curriculum is the same at at UF - which means all credits earned at SF are guaranteed to transfer. If you are planning to move to Gainesville at the beginning of the school year, consider enrolling at SF. Our Admissions staff will help you through the admissions process quickly so you can get the classes you need at the times you want. More information at http://www.sfcollege.edu
I think you can take a certain number of online Uf classes fall and qualify for football tickets.
After initally starting this thread I looked more into Innovation Academy and it is an amazing opportunity for me. I know that a lot of people don’t like IA because they didn’t know it was Summer/Spring when they applied, but because of my low vision it would be an amazing opportunity for me to live on campus during the fall and take a few online courses. The time to adjust would be extremely helpful!
I called IA and asked about the opportunities to live on campus (including the luxury dorms) and they were very helpful. The woman who took my call was honest and said that she didn’t know the best way to answer my question, but she took my contact info and an IA counselor is going to contact me.
I also sent in an e-mail about financial aid disbursement and the possibility of accessing my Pell Grant with out using my other federal aid.
Are there any other potential IA students on here?
See page 14 of the 2017 Annual Admission report to see how many IA students enrolled (423), last year and in what majors.

Most of the IA students live in Beaty (UF’s first “apartment style” resident hall), and it’s a fairly close group.
Congrats
@Gator88NE Thanks! I was scrambling to reserve one of the luxury apartments because I would want to do the fall semester as well, and last night they sent out an e-mail discussing the housing agreements. Apparently you can stay in Beaty during the Fall, so I’m all good now.
It really depends on the FA package. If I get even a small scholarship I would go because my BF, Pell, and state grants would cover the rest. I’m worrying about paying for the fall so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Yep, yep, you’ll need to see the financial package. Hopefully UF will award you a (needs-based) grant and/or federal work study. Lots of student jobs on campus are limited to federal work study. If you do get it, it may lead to a job that you can keep through the fall, which may make the fall affordable.
Good Luck!
@Gator88NE Do they typically award need-based grants other than federal grants? My FAFSA was submitted ASAP (October 2nd) and I have an EFC of 0. Flagler awarded me the FRAG (I know I won’t get it here), the FSAG, and FSEG. I am a first-generation college student as well.
UF doesn’t say it will meet 100% of need.
You’ll have to wait to see what they offer. They will offer all of the FSAG, FSEG and Pell they can. Then student loans, and based on what’s left, work study and possibly a UF need-based grant. [-O<
I’m considering doing the exact same thing as you, @annabanabelle!
I’ve actually decided to attend a different college, but I wish you the best of luck!
@annabanabelle where are you committed to?
@ucfdefere I will be attending Flagler College in St. Augustine. It was my top choice and luckily came out to be the most affordable option, my even with the BF amounts I would get at the publics.
At this point I only need $3300 a year to attend, and if I choose to get the $3500 subsidized loan I was offered I will be set! Still waiting to hear back from two promising scholarships though ;).
We love touring Flagler College, lots of unique history and the Ponce de León Hotel is fantastic, I hope you like Tiffany Blue.
