input needed: quality of education, campus life

Lehigh is high on my son's list (top 3). we visited, and came away with a very good impression overall. I would like to help S in his final decision (he may decide to apply ED: everything is ready for the common app "submit" button for a couple of schools on his list). The decision is his, but as a paying member of this equation, I do play an advisory role.

I would appreciate it very much if you share your thoughts. I may present some negative stereotypes, but bear with me. I would like to know whether this is some truth or whether they are grossly exaggerated.

quality of academic experience in fields other than business and engineering.

attention and support from the faculty/administration to individual students.

yes, the drinking problem. There is a prevailing view that Lehigh has a major problem in this area.

Is there campus life for those not going Greek?

student body: there is a stereotype of Lehigh students being rich, white, shallow, conservative and entitled kids. I know this is a gross exaggeration and awfully unfair description. Yet, in every stereotype, there is a grain of truth at the bottom of the "myth". I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Please understand that I am not trying to "dis" Lehigh. You can say, if anything, I would like to be persuaded in its favor - it seems like a terrific school and I hope the negatives my son heard are not based on recent reality.

There are threads on many of these topics that may be more helpful than one or two comments. I can tell you that my son’s experience in all areas has been nothing but positive.

^^ My son’s experience too. He enjoyed his time at Lehigh during undergrad that he stayed for post grad work.

hmm this is easy. I go to lehigh…

cant answer as im in business/eng. But from friends in other majors they say its good

not much attention during class if any at all. office hours are a must if you want to talk to a professor. most will spend time with you if you need it

yes its prevalent but not much of a problem. most of them just go to frats and drink away so its hidden. i don’t mind it as they keep to themselves unless you go on the hill then you wont see drinking.

haha i wish

yes you hit it right on. not everyone is like that but unfortunately a good amount will act this way. there is a good amount of diversity but expect them to be in their own little groups. no mixing of characters at this school.

I have to disagree with number 5 based upon my son’s experience. He has a diverse hall and they do alot together as a group, regardless of ethnicity. My son really loves the kids at Lehigh - they are very friendly and open on the whole.
