Inputed wrong GPA on college application

Hello! So a few months back I applied to a college with the help of a friend, I didn’t have my GPA calculated before hand but she said she could calculate it for me and I said that was fine. She put on the application my GPA was a 3.92, and good news is I got accepted. But the bad news is I got my GPA calculated for my Homeschooled Transcript and I got a 3.67. What should I do?? Should I email the college and tell them I got it wrong? Do you think they will change their minds if I do so? I am very stressed about this, so if anyone could help me out with what I should do I’d be grateful.

Of course you should contact the college and correct the mistake. GPA is a big factor in college admissions. I can’t say for sure how they will respond because the GPA discrepancy is quite large, and not in your favor. You should move rather swiftly in contacting them to give yourself time to apply to other colleges in the event that they rescind their offer.

Not sure whether or not this is the best advice as I do not know all of the facts & circumstances, but an often repeated saying is that it is best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Translation: Avoid interfering in a situation that is currently causing no problems but might do so as a result of such interference.

P.S. Applicants final GPAs typically change from the time one applies util high school is completed. Did the school ever receive your final GPA and, if so, was it accurate ?

I think you need to be exceedingly careful here. The problem with doing nothing is that if the discrepancy is ever discovered, it might be a reason to rescind your diploma, years after you graduate. You could be well into your career, and this would be a huge problem.

Perhaps I am being overly cautious, but I would tell the college what happened. I think you also need to be careful about what you say if you go through with this, as I don’t think having a friend calculate your GPA gives you an excuse for such a wide discrepancy.

Before you do something precipitous, do you have a guidance counselor, etc to talk to? Have you discussed this with your parents? I would try to get some good advice from your well-wishers.

Good luck with this.

Did you input your HS courses and corresponding grades on the application? Did you submit your Homeschool transcript?

If you inputted all grades and courses correctly, then the College could have calculated the correct GPA. Double check your application information before contacting them since they may have noticed your GPA error and still admitted you.

I have not inputed my HS transcript yet because I only got it recently. Only the GPA scores was put in to because I needed one in order to apply. I didn’t think it was a big deal at first because I have never applied to a college before, should’ve waited for my hs transcript to be done but I didn’t know it was a big deal and my friend said I could input a different GPA later… I have not finished Highschool yet though so I’m not going to input my final Homeschool transcript until after I graduated (or I think that’s what I have to do anyways)

No, I have yet to graduate Highschool yet, next semester I do, so they won’t receive my final GPA until the end of next semester

None of my parents have ever done college, or one of them has done state college before but he’s not one to help out so they have no clue what to do either, I’ve been mainly the one figuring things out. Hence why I had a friend help me out with my very first college application because she’s done college already and I had no one else to turn to, hence why I am in this predicament. I’m also homeschooled so finding people to talk to about anything college related is tough to find but I’m going to try because I don’t want to mess up this badly again.

Don’t stress. It’s a new experience for you and you made a mistake. It happens more than you imagine. You mentioned you are homeschooled. Who is responsible for your education? Do you have someone that checks in with you from your local school district from time to time? It might be helpful for you to find a local counselor or other trusted adult that can help you with your mistake and maybe other applications? I don’t know much about homeschooling so I’m sorry that I can’t be of more help. I wish you well.

Did you submit a six semester unofficial homeschool transcript? Did you input all of your detailed courses and grades in the app?

I do have a person come in and check my work from time to time, but I don’t know them personally, they only come over and report to the school board pretty much. I mainly teach myself but I do some online classes from time to time. My mom is technically in charge of teaching me but she never went to college and hates teaching so I’m mainly the person who does everything. I do have a tutor who I could possibly reach out to help with this so I am going to reach out to her inna few to see what they say and advise.

App? What might you referring to? And no I have yet to submit my home school transcript yet, it only required a GPA for me to apply to the college. I am planning to go to college in fall 2022 and I think the college website said it’s too early to submit it yet. Will be double checking

Your application. What school are we talking about? If you didn’t provide an unofficial six semester transcript along with detailed courses and grades, you do need to contact them and correct your GPA. I wouldn’t do that until you have calculated your six-semester GPA…have you done that?

I am homeschooled so I don’t have an official high school name just my family’s last name and (homeschool) at the end. It’s what you’re supposed to do since I don’t have a high school. And I have not finished high school so my homeschooled transcript won’t be finished until this coming up semester. But I have done the hs transcript, it’s just not complete yet. And I am sorry if what I’m saying doesn’t make sense, I am still new to this whole thing if I’m being honest.

I understand you don’t have an official transcript. But to apply to most colleges you are going to need an unofficial 6-semester transcript. Your mom (or whoever is in charge of your homeschooling) will have to provide detailed course descriptions and grades for all of your courses. To what schools are you applying?

A six semester transcript is the typical 9th grade through 11th grade transcript with a grade for each semester (2 semesters per year). That is what is typically submitted with the application. A full eight semester transcript is expected after 12th grade is complete, but that is usually after college acceptance since that’s in May of senior year for the average kid.

Does that make sense?

So what @Mwfan1921 is asking for is your 9th - 11th grades (6 semesters).

ETA: cross posting with last several posts. Yes, check with the additional requirements for homeschooling, etc as recommended.

@Janiewalker can you give OP some advice as to what she will need to apply to colleges as a homeschooled student?

Well I have a few in mind but the rest I’ve applied to already have my correct GPA, only one school has an incorrect GPA because I didn’t have my official GPA yet. And the school that does have the incorrect GPA is called Cedarville University

Do the schools you have already applied to, with the exception of Cedarville, show in their portals that they have all the information they need from you? Some schools are not going to accept only a cumulative GPA from a homeschooled student…they will need more detail on the courses and a grade for each course (from years 9-11 as dramamama stated above).
