I got deferred EA. I think I am a fairly competitive candidate with good stats and the addition of doing well at MITES. The only problem was that I was suspended early in 10th grade and I wrote an extensive explanation of the events, and how I reformed. Is there any way I could find out if this is the reason why I got deferred? If this is the case, fixing my application status would be really hard.

it depends on why you got suspended

either way, do we have the option of calling in or contacting somebody to figure out why we were deferred?

I read your blog entries and my heart breaks - because as Matt and Ben have told you, we took so many fewer this year (~12%) as we had 10% more applicants. We only have so many spots, so many rooms on campus, and so many of you are perfect for MIT in every way.

You can try calling the admin office, but I really doubt they'll tell you anything - they've really got far too much to do to tell every deferred/rejected applicant why they weren't accepted. To date, I don't know why I was deferred (I even have my E3 card, and it only says good things, so shrugs). However, if you have an idea of why you might've been deferred, you can always submit appeal-like supplemental materials to boost your position a little - I did that.

How did you get your E3 card?

get your counselor to call. They are more likely to get the unvarnished truth than you are if it was the suspension.

Before this year, you could get your E3 card per request as an enrolled student. Now they destroy them.
