I was just over in the Princeton Review site, and I was browsing through their internships section and I saw the application info for Inroads, and I must say it's more competitive than I thought. I'm waiting on my decision, I just sent off my transcripts yesterday. They get about 35,000 apps. and they accept about 7,000 kids comes out to about 20% acceptance rate. So I guess my chances are quite small with a 3.4 it was worth the shot.

Half of those kids barely meet the requirements. They're giving a shot out to everyone. It's just like Florida giving AP vouchers... likewise, you'd be glad you're taking the same Ap test as those kids. (This is why there is a high failure rate for Modern European History AP)

SEO is much more competitive, because of all the applicants... most of them are overqualified or qualifed enough, that the GPA minimum on paper is just courtesy. InRoads does not require essays, but SEO requires 2 recommendtions and essay. That will cut down the applicant pool by half. SEO also recruits at Ivy's, not state schools.

I've have yet to hear from InRoads.. it's been 2 months basically. But I already got my internship by myself, so good luck to you and anyone else who tries. (GS is SEO/Posse Exclusive)

Do they take two months to respond back? I sure as heck hope not. What are most of the companies Inroads people work at?

i've waited for INROADS for two months as well. meanwhile, i'm trying to get internships on my own.

Why do they take so long, is it because of their application load, or do they just take a long time to respond?

I don't think they care. heh. I think, and this is based on my own opinion, that they only care about the non-Asian minorities: meaning, hispanics, african americans, and native americans.

I don't know about that, that seems awfully illegal, but I have to admit, I didn't see many Asian students on the Inroads' successfully story profiles.

if they dare to discriminate against asians, they should just specify that INROADS is only for Hispanics, Blacks and Native Americans. At least i wont be wasting my time applying....

Thats why it seems fishy that they would purposely discrimate against Asians, after all if they didn't want Asians to apply, they could just stipulate as you said, above. I think it's like you guys said earlier, about them being unorganized, and also there application load, after all the get 35k apps. They should think of raising there requirements to 3.3 or something like that, and that would limit the number of application they recieve.

Also, what the heck is the talent pool?

I was in the Inroads program until I dropped out when I decided not to go into bussiness anymore. The talent pool is a 2 day program (sat & sunday) they have (you have to pay like $35 dollars for it) and they force you to be there at 6:30/7AM SHARP or you have to pay $1 for every hour you are late. The sessions take all day. I never got home until 10pm. You get lunch, go through orientation, resume writing, interviewing skills, cover/ thank you letter writing...etc.

so, the talent pool means your accepted? Also I found this in the FAQ Section:

What students are eligible for INROADS?
Talented Black, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American Indian students who have a GPA of 2.8 or better and high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Eligible high school candidates must also have either an ACT composite score of 20 or better, an SAT combined score of 1,000 or better, or rank within the top 10 percent of their class. Some INROADS affiliates maintain more competitive standards. Interested students must pursue a college degree in a business or technical discipline and be motivated to succeed. In recent years, some students in liberal arts and other majors have received special permission to participate in the INROADS process. Our staff looks for the best and brightest students of color who demonstrate strong leadership capabilities. To apply, students should talk with their school counselor or call their local INROADS office or submit an on-line application.

So maybe Asian students aren't eligible.

no, the talent pool does not mean you are accepted. After the talent pool, you make an appointment to be interviewed with the Inroads staff. If you pass that stage, you are accepted into the program. Then, they send your resume to employers that match your intrests, and it's up to the employer to call you. So, you might get called by 1 or no companies. During the talent pool training they make it a point to emphazise, that internships are not guaranteed.

when the INROADS representative met with me in internship fair, he NEVER mentioned that i'm not qualified. He told me to apply immediately...etc.

damn them for not accepting asians................ we asians are excluded by the "white" circle, now by "minority" circle as well............

Do most of the participants get internships though?

What company?
