Insanely long essays?

Ok, I've finished my UC application a while ago and had to write only 500 word essays. Piece of cake. Stanford's word limit, however, is around 1400-1500 words for the short ones! And rougly 2400 for the long one!

To the people that applied/are applying, how long are your essays? Does Stanford expect us to reach the word limit?

1400-1500 is the character limit. 5,100 is the character limit for the long one, which is around 900 words or so I think.

1400-1500 characters. Not words.

-Ender

Actually, those are character limits. That comes out to around 250 words for the shorter ones, and my long one was only somewhere in the 500's. So you don't need to worry!

Aw, *****. Time to do the chopping. Thanks for telling me! I thought Stanford was trying to weed away prospective students or something.

Does the character count include spaces?

yes, it does

yes it includes spaces

for long essay i dont think there is a limit on the paper application - it just says you are limited to the space provided, am I wrong?

You're right, but you should use a reasonable font :)

hehe - I wrote essay for about 1000 words - hopefully I will fit it there:):)

the long essay section will fit essays of up to 700 words, but after that you're gonna have to use a really small font which i don't recommend. You don't wanna **** off the adcom

my essay was hardly 500 words, DAMN I'm SCREWED

but i can attach a printed copy - as they said :)

Mine was 530 hello. I think the length is of little importance, as long as it's reasonable. It's the content that's important.

Precisely 5100 characters. Yay!
