Mmm, so, never done this before but I thought I ought to give it a shot.

Intended major: English/English lit/comp. lit/creative writing... you get the picture. I love languages, too, so I'm thinking I might end up double majoring at this point (probably in French; I'll get into this later). I also have an interest in minoring in history or philosophy.

I go to a very competitive, nationally ranked public school.

SAT: 660 CR/670 M/670 W... so, 1330/2000. Will most likely be retaking these in the fall as I don't think I really lived up to my potential (my claim to fame is that I napped during the test).
SAT II: haven't taken them yet, but will probably be doing Lit, World History, and Spanish (without listening) and expect to do well on all.
ACT: 33 overall with 31 (ew) writing. Got 35 on English and reading, 32 on math, and 31 on science, but I don't know if colleges even see the individual scores. I'm not going to retake this; I'm very happy with it.

For places that ask for ACT scores or SAT scores and NOT SAT IIs, I will probably only be sending my ACT scores.

GPA UW: 3.8, I think? I was told I had a 3.9 in freshman & sophomore year combined and got a 3.7 this year (average of about a 91), but I don't have a clue what it is overall as our school doesn't tell us very regularly.
GPA W: don't know.
Class rank: don't know this either, unfortunately.
APs: I've taken four so far, but only have a grade for one--

European History (4)
US History (no clue how I did...)
Lang & Comp (expecting a 5)
Art History (also expecting a 5 here)

As a senior I'll be taking seven exams: Psychology, Lit, Spanish, Bio, Stat, and both Economics exams. I'm also taking honors French (I started in tenth grade, but at the second level... if that makes sense) and two half-year electives, Film as Literature and Military History, provided it all fits nicely.

These were my grades for junior year--don't remember anything beyond this, nor do I have any of it on hand:

APUSH: B+ (managed this somehow)
Precalc H: B (I was horrible at this class)
Physics H: B (I'm just happy I PASSED)

From here it gets better, I promise!

AP Lang: A
AP Art History: A
French 3H: A
Spanish 4H: A-
Art (not that this counts for much): A-

I'm expecting to get a glowing recommendation from my English teacher of two years and to write really, really good essays--though my standardized test scores don't show it, I'm a good writer, I swear!

ECs/awards/etc. Ay!
National Merit semifinalist.
Two gold medals on the French National Contest (aka Le Grand Concours) for 2nd and 3rd level; won first in my region for 3rd level.
Member of the Spanish Honor Society (and am expecting to get into the French one, but I wasn't eligible this year).
Member of National Honor Society.
Teaching myself Russian.
Volunteer on a monthly basis at a local fair-trade store. I have nearly 50 hours owing to this so far, plus 30 or so from previous stuff.
One season of indoor track on JV, and another of outdoor. I have no idea if I'll continue with this as I hated outdoor and the whole policy is changing and... well, I'm awful at track.
Three years on art club.
One year of film club; hopefully I'll be more involved as a senior.
Two years so far on the literary magazine; had several pieces in both years and was a staff member as a junior. As a senior I will be co-editor.
Have taken loads of summer classes: one in film analysis, one in Holocaust history, two in creative writing. I might be taking another in creative writing this year but I'm not sure.

I write loads and make art and short films and stuff in my spare time, but I doubt that these count as veritable "activities." I realize my ECs are pretty lame in comparison to a lot of crazy people on this site--I mean that lovingly; I wish I were as dedicated as some of you!--but at this point I've really just got to make due.

I think that's about it! Now for the schools.
UK choices (provided anyone can actually advise me about these), complete with courses I plan to apply for:
Pembroke College, Cambridge; English
University College, London; French and English
St. Andrews; English
QMUL; English (possibly English and History, I haven't quite decided yet)
and the last choice is up in the air, either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I realize that Cambridge is a huge reach for anyone but I'd really like to try, at least. UCL is a bit reachy for me as I currently stand, I think, but given my performance in French I think I've got a decent shot; St. Andrews is sdjklejrkm, really; and I'm confident I can get into QMUL easily so long as I do fine on my SAT II tests.

And now for essentially ever other school I've ever considered! I realize I have to narrow this down, but for now that's not incredibly important.

Columbia (as a HUGE reach)
Georgetown (see above)
NYU
Sarah Lawrence
Boston U and Boston C both
George Washington (in DC)
Oberlin
McGill
University of Toronto
Johns Hopkins
Kenyon
(possibly) Carnegie Mellon
Trinity College Dublin (my parents really love Ireland...?)
American University of Paris

I feel like I'm forgetting loads, but I can't come up with much more.

American is currently functioning as my safety, and I've been looking at some schools in Philly as I love it there--Temple, Drexel, Villanova (though not necessarily as a safety), etc. I think out of all of these I'd most like to go to NYU or one of the places in DC.

I'm also curious about some of the smaller liberal arts schools, such as Reed, Williams, Bard, and Bowdoin, but a lot of them are in the middle of NOWHERE and I'm not too big on that. Either that or they're too close to home.

Anyway, this was hugely long, so whatever. Chance away! Also, I apologize for my overuse of parentheses; having read this over it's QUITE annoying.
