Insight on chances at CA schools?

I’m from NY (long Island) and was wondering if this would increase my chances of being accepted into schools like USC or UCLA. I am fully aware that my academic standing is more important but hypothetically speaking, if i were to be considered at these schools along with a similar applicant who was local to them (from California), would I have a better chance than they would? Hope my wording isn’t too confusing! Thanks.

USC gets a lot of NY applicants, so you would have to have something that distinguishes you from other NY residents.
UCLA is a California public university funded by the state of California and the tax-paying residents. It was built for California students along with the other UCs. Priority goes to residents.

talk about environmental cleanup. lived out there for 34 years and it gets mighty dirty. Californians love the enviornemnt. do it?

In-state residents get priority as stated above in post #1. Is UCLA affordable at $55K/year or more with no financial aid as an OOS student?
