Insight on Union

Don't know much about Union but would love to know more. Any current parents or students out there?

Movinmom,

I was hoping that someone else would respond since my son also has questions about Union. We visited there in early August. He loved the look of the campus, and we were fairly impressed by the research opportinities that existed in the sciences. They had a series of posters exhibited that described the research project each student had been involved with and where they were going to grad or med school after they left Union.

Another intriguing thing was the residential house system. These houses were absolutely gorgeous. Every student is assigned to one house where they can hang out or attend various social or even academic functions. Athough freshmen students live in the dorms, upperclassmen can opt to live in the house. According to what I've heard, the administration founded the college system as a counterbalance to the fraternities and sororities. Our tour guide was a member of a fraternity, but was also very involved in his college house. The houses are very well funded by the school (their budgets are quite hefty), and they put on a lot of different events.

I did have questions about the degree to which frats dominated the campus. The tour guide assured us there was life in and out of the fraternity system but it would be interesting to get some additional feedback on this. I'd also like some sense of how heavy the load is for pre-meds.

It would be great to hear from someone who knows more about the college.
