Instant Pot (Pressure Cooker) Tips & Recipes

I made unstuffed cabbage in it… took 15 minutes including the prep. Instapots are fantastic for making soups and bean dishes, so I assume a vegetarian will find this gadget very useful.

I have the 7 in 1 - haven’t made yogurt though…I have done a fresh tomato based sauce with excellent results and a cabbage recipe (like BB above) with great results. And refried beans - SOOOO good!!!

BB, did you put the rice in with the unstuffed cabbage? I found a recipe where the rice is cooked separately, but it seems like the rice could be cooked in with the cabbage and meat.

No, I just cooked cabbage and meat because neither of us is a huge fan of rice, but I agree that it is possible that rice can be cooked with the rest of the stuff.

I did do stuffed peppers w/rice (and meat) in the Instapot - the rice came out just fine! Just be sure to use enough liquid (for me that usually means something like a can or fresh diced tomatoes and a little water or broth.

We do make veg chili, black bean soup and the indian chick pea curry in our slow cooker all the time. It takes a few hours. Am I right in assuming we could do all the same things in the instant pot, but that it would cook much faster?

Yes! You will be eating dinner in under an hour.

Awesome - thanks @BunsenBurner. H would just love that! And hopefully, I’ll get some space cleared out in my cabinets - don’t need two rice cookers, a pressure cooker and two slow cookers if I have this IP!

I am getting rid of one of my slow cookers because I use the Instapot all the time now (will keep the other just for T-giving to keep food warm). I got a second insert pot for my Instapot so I can just swap the insert, put the lid back on, and make a second dish without having to unload the first insert and to clean it.

Pretty soon, you will be buying another IP altogether - like me

Making cat food in the IP from a bunch of boneless chicken purchased at Costco for $20. This is cheaper than the food that comes in tiny cans!

It looks like IP sealing ring is on sale at Amazon for 1/2 price.

Cat food prep was a success! Followed up with a batch of pulled pork, then used the other insert to make some riced cauliflower… Everyone in the house had a great dinner.

Made some apple-quince sauce in the Instapot. Yumm.

Figured I’d bump this thread up again with all the talk of people taking the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Instant Pot plunge!

Anyway. CAN YOU BELIEVE I HAVEN’T MADE RICE IN IT YET? My favorite rice is Jasmati. I’m reading that I just dump it in, around a 1:1 ratio with water/salt/butter, for 3 minutes on High, then do a NPR…right?

Or, do I use the rice setting? Okay, Okay… I’m embarrassed to even be asking this!

Three minutes isn’t long enough. I’m reading six. But what I don’t like in using the Instant Pot that way is you have to time the pressure release. I cook rice in a rice cooker-- dump it in with the water, push the button, then whenever the rest of dinner is ready, open up the cooker and eat the rice. The whole point of not cooking it on the stove is ignoring it. Does the RICE setting work like that?

I’ve actually never made rice in the IP - guess we don’t really eat much rice!

I made swiss steak again tonight. I hadn’t used my IP in a few weeks. Quickly remembered how convenient it is! Sauteed the beef for 3 minutes on each side and then added tomato juice, onion, mushroom, carrots and some spices. Put the top on, 22 minutes manual and NPR. Tender as could be! No watching the pot needed!

I have not made rice, but I have made rice pilafs with pre-browned meat. Easy!! Love to not watch the pot.

Made my first recipe tonight! Chicken and brown/wild rice.

^^^And? Did it turn out? Was it good? Where’s the recipe!
