Instant Pot (Pressure Cooker) Tips & Recipes

I didn’t think the sealing ring was supposed to go into the dishwasher. But DH didn’t know that and ran ours through a cycle; no harm done at all, but the smell is still there.

Ribs time! Cooked some ribs in the IP, and then realized that we are going to a dinner tonight. Put them in the fridge to be bbqed with sauce tomorrow.

@Nrdsb4, the sealing ring is NOT supposed to go in the dishwasher? I should stop doing it then.

I needed to do a last minute dinner- pulled out frozen chicken , cooked it in 10 minutes and had BBQ shredded chicken. Bingo.

@4beardolls, it may depend on your particular model. And I might have been wrong. I’ve been hand washing mine. But as I said, DH did put ours in the dishwasher with no ill effects.

Also, if you are using Insta Pot, you can but extras online if memory serves.

Rock-solid frozen 5-lb hunk of ribs took 30 min on high pressure to cook to awesomeness.

To clean my ring, I boil vinegar and then place the ring in for a few minutes, then follow up with dishwashing soap. Any lingering cooking smells disappeared. It worked for me!

Another great dinner. Shrimp and grits.

3-4 slices bacon cut in bite size pieces
1 pgk spiced sausage links diced or sliced
1 lb shrimp tossed with ground garlic and adobo seasoning
1 c grits
3 c water
1 3/4 c heavy cream
5-6 oz cheese of choice (cheddar this time!)
A few tbsp butter

  • 3 cloves garlic minced ( used 1 1/2 tsp of the chopped garlic)
And salt and pepper to taste.

Turn pot on sauté and sauté sausage till browned. Remove to paper towel lined plate
Sauté bacon until done
Remove
Sauté shrimp till pink. If precooked just until warm.
Remove
Add another tbsp grease or butter
Add grits and brown on saute for 3 min. Stirring
*deglaze the pot really well with the water. Make sure both is clean.
Turn pot off and add cream
Close pot and set manually for 12 min
Release pressure
Add cheese and stir to melt. Add shrimp, bacon and sauté to warm.

Brown gravy - I used jarred brown gravy with added ground garlic and adobo seasoning

Did anyone besides me get one of these on Amazon Prime Day?

@zoeydoggie - I bought one for my D for her birthday on Prime Day and had it sent off to her! Her bd isn’t until the 3rd week in August and thankfully, Amazon sent it in a plain box, so it’s sitting in the corner of her kitchen until she is ready to open it. It was larger than the model I wanted to get, but I couldn’t resist the price given the features on the one that was on special!

The shrimp and grits looks interesting - but wow, that’s a lot of “heavy” - bacon, sausage, heavy cream, butter - I mean, I know grits are best with lots of butter and cheese, but I’d like to lighten this up a bit. @Singersmom07 - did you make this? How did the grits turn out texture wise?

I made this recipe once before and it was delicious (including the leftovers). I’m making it again right now – http://littlespicejar.com/crispy-chicken-carnitas/ Note that I didn’t bother making the sauce; I just used some good quality salsa as a sauce.

It came out a little thick but creamy and it was very rich. A treat not a regular dinner and portions were small. We served with veggies and salad. I am working on lightening it up some now. I like to try the original first and go from there.

I can’t recall if anyone had mentioned making risotto in the Instant Pot, but I made some for the first time tonight and it was unbelievably easy and came out perfectly! https://www.hippressurecooking.com/pressure-cooker-risotto-in-7-minutes/

I have made the mushroom risotto posted somewhere in the pages above! It was good.

Did you do the plain recipe or a variation listed? Seems that this recipe is kind of lean on the cheese, butter, etc.

I followed the plain recipe just to try it out for the first time, but you’re right – I added some extra parmesan cheese and butter to finish it off.

Hey Instapot people! I became familiar with this cookbook this weekend…I usually just search the internet for recipes, but something about fall and cool weather draws me to cookbooks…my brother actually bought this book and was making beef bourguignon yesterday - haven’t heard how it came out yet…

The price is good on the book right now…has anyone leafed through the book or tried a recipe??

I just ordered my first instant pot last night! I went with the 3-quart version, since there are only two of us most of the time now.

Does anyone else have the 3-quart version? Any tips for converting recipes to fit the smaller pot? Thank you!

I am also looking to buy the 3 quart size. If you see it on sale in the next few weeks let me know.

Has anyone cooked tamales in it? I would love to shorten the amount of time it takes to steam them
