When both custodial parent and ncp fill out the css profile, do they each get a separate efc or is there just one efc and you work out how that's divided between you?

The information would go to the school, and the school will decide how it incorporates the info into the financial aid offer. The student only has one financial aid file at each school they apply to. Each schools offer is liable to be a little different even though they may be using similar numbers.

You will get only one financial aid package from the school…and only ONE bill. The financial aid package you receive will take into consideration the finances of both of your parents if the NCP Profile is required. The school honestly doesn’t care who pays the bills or how they are divided up. That is up to your family to determine. BUT if you are asking if your mom will get one bill or contribution number and your dad another…not that I’ve ever heard of.

That’s interesting. My S’s school breaks out the student contribution from the parent contribution. I would have expected that schools would break out the two separate parent contributions when using NC Profile. Not that in either case is there any binding requirement that the contribution be paid as suggested by the school, but it would probably be helpful in many situations for the school to “allocate” the expected contribution according to the assets and incomes that drove it.

Yes the student contribution is broken out by some schools. Maybe I’m wrong…but I believe only ONE bill with ONE payment is given to each student. The school isn’t responsible for how it’s paid.

We are in this situation and, at least at S1’s school the financial aid offer always has a student contribution and parent contribution with a specific note instructing us that it is up to the family to determine how the parental contribution will be paid.

It’s true, thumper, even though they break out the student contribution for our information, there is one bill and it is up to us to figure out how to pay it.

So I guess I am correct… One parent contribution… Not separate ones for each of the divorced parents.

Thanks for the responses.
