Juniata College, a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, has full tuition scholarships for national merit finalists. This might be a nice option for NMF looking for a smaller school. It's not clear from their website if these are limited in number.

CUNY Honors College @ NYC

The program is available at several campuses: Baruch College; Brooklyn College; City College; Hunter College; The College of Staten Island; Lehman College; and Queens College. (I think it will continue to grow.)

Hi, I'm a student living in Michigan. I have a 4.0 UW GPA, 34 ACT, and 2400 SAT. I expect to be named NMSF, and I am ranked #1 in my class. I am captain of the cross-country team and the quiz bowl team, Vice-President of NHS, and have several other EC's,

Would I be competitive for any scholarships to top 25 schools? Most especially UofM and admission to Olin?

Thanks for any help!

Iowa State University offers full ride to merit finalists from the State of iowa and several great scholarships to engineering students based on merit.

Ecthelion, I assume you are the young man I saw featured in the local paper this week! Congratulations on your stellar scores. From the article, you seem to be a well-rounded kid. You have a great chance of scholarships, BUT ... and this is important! ... quite a few top schools DO NOT offer merit scholarships. They attract the top students, so they don't need to offer merit. Instead, they offer wonderful need-based aid, meeting all need (that is, need as determined by federal & institutional financial aid formulas).

U of M does offer some good scholarships, and you are a strong candidate for those ... apply early!!! I don't know much about Olin, but isn't that the one that offers free tuition to all who are accepted? That's a good deal! Of course, you'll still have to pay room & board.

Some of the top schools like WashU offer excellent scholarships, but no one seems to be able to figure out just who is going to be accepted. Kids with stats like yours sometimes aren't. That is how selective admissions works ... so you have to apply to several schools where you might get in & you might get the kind of money you want. In other words, hedge your bets. It seems you want to go into engineering. Find schools where you think you'd be happy & start researching them on this website. Apply early.

Basically, if there is merit money to be had, you have as good a chance as about anyone! Your SAT score is going to pay off ... very soon, you will receive mail & phone calls from schools. Read everything! Look into a variety of schools, start visiting to get a sense of where you would like to go to school, and search through these threads. Have fun! :)

ecthelion,

Top 20 Universities granting merit aid: Cal Tech, Duke, Chicago, Wash U, Johns Hopkins, Rice, Emory and Vanderbilt. Northwetern has a new hybrid scholarship that is part merit part need. For LAC's: Davidson, Claremont McKenna, and Harvey Mudd. Colby has a progam like Northwestern.

Sorry, among the top 20 LAC's Smith and Grinnell also give merit aid.

University of Miami
Singer Scholarship
Full tuition and fees/4 years

For NMF, UM guarantees 50% tuition scholarship at least. There are lots of schools that offer full tuition or other incentives to NMF as well.

What do you do If you don 't have a job, your parents have bad credit, you've been denied 3 loans and you only have $300.00?
caitlinelise: Start a new thread under "financial aid" and explain your situation. There are also some threads by other students in your financial position so read those too.

My son just got an e-mail from Tulsa about a great deal of aid for merit finalists.
