CMU partially matched merit scholarship from a peer institute for my D. The new financial aid offer shows the amount as Institutional Scholarship. Is this renewable every year? The letter does not indicate if it is or this is a one-time deal for first year. The merit scholarship was only offered after we sent it the other college offer.

I got hold of the financial aid office and yes, it’s confirmed that the institutional scholarship is renewable as long as the student meets the minimum QPA. Very nice and helpful staff. Now only if I can get used to the bagpipes hold music… ;)

DS had, Institutional Grant, in a similar situation. I think CMU would say that this grant is not based on scholarship but on being price competitive to the other school.

ccreader, when did you get the revised FA notification? I still haven’t gotten mine. :(

BMittman - Ours was processed on Apr 16. Check your “Where Am I in the Process”. We did not receive a physical letter or any notification, just happened to log into the website and saw the revised FA online. You should be able to see when your request was received, the re-evaluation date and revised package, etc. Good luck.

They received the request on April 13th, and nothing’s changed yet even though they said it would only take about two days.

Yes even if you win the lottery or your income doubles to the point that your EFC exceeds tuition, any merit aid is renewable as long as your D stays off academic probation.

To everyone submitting requests for revisions to financial aid-- don’t expect the full deal-- but usually there’s a bit more money thrown at most people. The stronger the applicant you are-- the more likely you will get more $$.
