And for those who is living off campus, do you purchase any renter's insurance?

I'm thinking about whether I should buy any insurance.

I think if your parents already have insurance you dont have to purchase the schools health insurance. I haven't purchased the schools one.

If you are currently covered on your parent's health insurance policy, you should be covered while you are a full-time college student until the age of 23 -- but check with your insurance carrier to be absolutely certain. Never take coverage for granted. If you are NOT covered, it is extremely important to buy health insurance. Although UF provides free clinic services, there are charges for drugs, lab tests, x-rays, etc., and if you are unfortunate enough to have a significant illness or injury, the medical costs could derail your college finances.

For off-campus students, renter's insurance is always a good idea if you have anything of value. Landlords do not cover your possessions in the event of robbery, flood, fire, etc.

thank you so much

is insurance automatically included in our expenses at UF? i remember someone telling me to make sure i don't accidentally purchase insurance from UF...

Insurance isn't automatically covered, but as Orchid mentioned, certain services are covered.

What is the "Health Fee"?
The mandatory health fee (paid when your tuition is paid) includes professional office visits with the SHCC medical and nursing staff. Any charges incurred at the SHCC, including lab, x-ray, medications, casts, crutches, supplies, etc., or referrals to hospital emergency rooms are your financial responsibility.
