Insuring laptop?

Hi,

Before we purchased my daughter's fancy new laptop the sales associate told me about an insurance that for about $19.99 per year would insure the laptop and had some kind of theft retrieval thing w/it, so that if it were stolen and once you report the theft it would activate something and when the computer was turned on it would take a picture of the culprit and then somehow be able to actually track the computer giving the student a far greater opportunity to recover both the computer and their schoolwork!

Has anyone heard of this? I can't remember what the insurance was called. Can anyone help me find this?

Thanks!

Wendy

A good general article about software based laptop recovery tools (strengths and weaknesses), see:

Since that article was published, LoJack (used for locating stolen autos) has branched out to laptop recovery: http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/

Hope this is helpful...
