Hi --
I was wondering about the integrated science course for freshman...has anyone taken it and if so, would you recommend it? What's it like? Does it work for premed requirements (i.e. does it fulfill chem an physics requirements for med school?) --thanks

i'm thinking about doing integrated also. i went to one of the classes during prefrosh weekend...it sounds interesting, but intense. i have the same questions.

Theres a thread about it from last years forum

and this one:

I'm thinking about it although it seems a bit too hardcore for me :)

one thing to make sure you look into is how it works w/ orgo, one of my friends had a lot of difficulty trying to figure out how to complete her orgo req

they say the exams are pretty easy... but the class is pretty tough...

i'm going to be a comp sci major, so this looks REALLY NICE since cos is also a prerequisite...

i'm wondering what a [tentative] pre-med comp sci major should do... i'm not exactly set on pre-med, but again, i'd like to get my prerequisites done and into computer science where my life resides

i wrote on my BSE work sheet that I sent in that I may be interested in the course and I'll see what I do when we make a final selection with my counselor.

the two year series of integrated fulfills all premed requirements (including biochem, which although not required is strongly recommended) EXCEPT for orgo. Integrated, however, fulfills the orgo requirement for both physics and mol majors (EEB too id assume). Several people took it along with the second year of integrated (which is only one class), a few people are taking it the junior year, and I'm thinking about taking it the second half of my junior year and one semester over the summer

ec1234,

for a comp sci major, do you recommend integrated? I also want to be a pre-med, possibly.

but, the comp sci class was an elective i would be taking freshman, anyway.

i know several cs majors in integrated.. it depends on your interests. If you're into bioinformatics, then it would be a good choice for you. If youre BSE, then cos126 isnt an elective, its a requirement, and in any event is necessary for a cs major. However, youve been talking on the boards about how you want a 4.0 and all that.. if thats the case, then don't take integrated.

i don't care about a 4.0 that much

i know cos126 is a requirement and it's IN integrated... so wouldn't it make sense for me to do this?

btw, a 4.0 doesn't matter because every single successful person that is publicized and famous didn't care to be unsocial and try to get a 4.0. i mean, it's cool, but there's a ton more important stuff to do.

if i could crack the class with a 3.6 or 3.7, that should be fine for any med school? hopefully, i hope...
