So I got in to Davis, and barring a miracle from Stanford it’s where I’ll be attending. I also got a Regents scholarship which is of course awesome news. Part of the Regents deal is I’m offered membership in the ISHP. Does anyone know anything about it beyond what the website says? The dorm situation sounds nice (for dorms, anyways) but the quote about somebody spending 60 hours on a project freaks me out a bit. What’s the workload like? Would I be all stressed out from entering in this program?

You are an aspiring Stanford hopeful but worried about workload at Davis?

Yup, haha. If I somehow got in to Stanford, I'd be up for it, but otherwise I was looking forward to not freaking out about "ugh so much work" all the time.

I can't say for sure that things haven't changed in two years, but I am in the ISHP at Davis (lived in Miller Hall freshman year) and never encountered a mandatory "60 hour" project. There are certainly some class projects that can take 60 hours to complete, but this is true of many classes, not just the IS ones. There is the opportunity to complete a junior-level research project (more than 60 hours, though!), but this is entirely optional and you don't have to make that decision for a couple of years. Go for it--you'll make some great friends!

can you just join the ISHP or do they have to invite you?
did they tell you about the regent’s scholarship with your acceptance letter?

going off of this question, whats the pros/cons on this vs the Davis honors program?

ISP is invitation only, Davis Honors Program you apply and are accepted. Do the program, IMO it’s all useless very easy stuff that you can write on your resume. It takes no time, even a GPA boost. It would be a shame not to pursue both opportunities. You also get your own computer lab with unlimited printing (if I remember correctly)

Apart from the 1st-year component, are there other differences between the Integrated Studies Honors Program and the Davis Honors Challenge? Is it easy to switch between the two?

Thanks!
