I couldn't find any specific thread for this, so I guess I'll just start one. This is my first year, and the registration process looks like an absolute nightmare with all the forms and requirements. Still, I'm really excited to be going, though it kind of stinks that it takes place the same week as AP tests.

Im not in it this year but I am interested in it. How do you pick project ideas? The ones ive seen and heard are extremely narrow and sophisticated. WHen do u normally do the project?

The ones that qualified at my state fair had a really broad spectrum of things going on. One guy wrote a chess program, another did artificial photosynthesis. I’m not as experienced as a lot of the other guys going, but choosing a project really depends on what you’re interested in. In other words, what dreams or ideas do you want to try out? Best time to do the project would probably be during the summer, since school is way too hectic.

Just wondering, if I’m mailing in hardcopies of the paperwork, should the W9 also be mailed in? I might just mail and upload that and the code of conduct.

I mailed the W9 and code of conduct forms in too, figured why not. The online system drove me absolutely nuts! No place to upload the extra laboratory review and cell-line review forms I needed, so I just submitted and sent everything in via mail and hopefully it will all work out! I’m so excited though - may can’t come fast enough!

I was so glad that I did a mechanical engineering project since I didn’t need all those extra forms. I’m still not sure as to what we do all week. If judging is Wed and awards Thurs and Fri, then what do we do with the rest of the time? So excited, though making up the AP’s won’t be fun.
