Anyone else going to be heading to Atlanta in May? ;)
Looking forward to it!

My state fair is on April 1st.

Hopefully I'll be joining you :D

Hope so too! Best of luck! =)

Just won 3rd place (team project where we placed in spite of my teammate choking), it's gonna be fun.

Hi guys!!

This is my first post on CC, but I've been reading the forum for a while. We had our north NJ regional science fair yesterday and Friday. I was one of the four people that will be representing our region in Atlanta. So I hope to meet all you guys in May.

In our regional fair, the top individual and top team were both from my school, so I'm actually going to get to travel with friends this year =)

We're central Austin by the way. Texas is going to rock the house; I've heard the projects going to state this year are awesome ;)

My team > yours

lol

In our fair, no teams are eligible for Intel. But 1-5 overall go.

...I was sixth. >_<

I guess its decent as a sophomore, but to miss by that much is so frustrating. What were you guys' projects?

Ouch, vortex o_o I completely sympathize with you. We send the top two individuals and the top two teams. It's probably different for each region/state because of population size, haha.

But hey, you're a sophomore - I hope you do awesome in the two years to come =)

What categories did everyone do this year? I'm a Behavioral & Social Sciences (individual).
In the past I did Behavioral (9th) and Microbiology (10th/11th).

The other people going from my region were Biochemistry (individual) and Life Sciences Micro (team).

Wow, that's it? Our region sends the top 8 individuals and the top 4 teams. Then again, we are directly above NYC.

I'm doing a Medicine & Health project btw.

I'm doing Medicine and Health too.

ISEF for me is bittersweet though--I have to leave my senior prom at 8:30 to catch a flight to Atlanta.

lmao @ prom worshippers

I know a fellow finalist who has to fly back from Atlanta for graduation, then take the 4 am flight next morning to be back in time for awards...

Wow that's pretty insane.

Our fair chooses the two best projects from the junior division (freshman and sophomores) and the two best projects from the senior division (juniors and seniors) for a total of four projects.

Oh, and my project is in the math category and it involves sports.

Good luck to anyone who still has to compete at the regional/state level.

Do you guys wanna share some info about your projects? I think it would be interesting.

Mines is a robotics project. I designed and prototyped an autopilot system that can be used for a low-cost UAV ($500). It has two-dimensional autonomous navigation, manual override pilot via radio control, real-time video feed, and a wireless downlink to my laptop.

I think I'm going to get drilled by the judge's questions cause I really don't have any sort of quantitative analysis. I hope that's the norm for an engineering project =[

heyy i am going to atlanta as well :)

anyway is it a great disadvantage to have no lab notebook? i'm not allowed to take mine out from the lab and most of the data are in the computers ><

any advice?

I didnt assemble a lab notebook specifically for ISEF or even WESEF (although I do have one).

Most of my work was done on the computer, I just printed out all of my programs and annotated it/made notes on the margins.

Also did a few sketches and whatnot and holepunched everything and put it in a binder.

I think a lab notebook is required for ISEF, I would make one.

I think the lab notebook would probably help (certainly makes you look more professional, haha). I have my paper and all the printouts of my data in there.

My prom is at 7pm on the 17th, so I'll be back just in time. If I decide to go, that is. I have no date and no dress and didn't really plan on going.

I can't believe people would choose a 4 hour party over a week-long vacation in which there is a chance at winning cash awards...
