Hi, I made an account here just to post this thread...

I'm a Hispanic/Latino rising senior with a 2.8 GPA out of a 4.0, I still have time to get at least a 3.0 because I'm taking summer school to get extra credits and boost my GPA. I'm also participating in a lot of internships this Summer, and am taking 4 AP classes my senior year. I go to a not-really-competitive, average performing New York City public high school. My high school does have its top students and valedictorians going to Cornell, NYU, and Columbia, but most do not end up there.

My high school has not had an Intel submission since ~2000? Anyway, that's because of the rapidly declining quality of education in New York City public schools and frequent budget cuts that have sharply reduced Intel submissions citywide, along with science programs.

The reason I'm posting all this info is because I know for the Intel application, it's very detailed.

I have heard that SAT scores play a crucial role? But my SAT scores are sub-par:

1480 combined, 540 CR, 420 M (math is my Achilles heel), and 520 W. 8 on the essay.

I plan on retaking them ASAP. Also, what about SAT II's? Does Intel prefer some subject SAT II's over others?

TRULY, I really feel that I have a some strand of potential at Intel STS competition. Most topics in the Intel competition are about highly intricate cellular processes and stuff, but mines is about education in the behavioral and social sciences field that no one in Intel has done before.

I feel that my Intel research project will help me stand out since most projects are not about education, and education is something I want to major in college. Another thing that may help me stand out is that my school has not had an Intel submission in a while, so this may make me seem like an anomaly?

Do I have a chance, at least to even make it to the semifinals? I have such passion for this research I'm doing and I'm almost done with the project. I'm basically waiting for the application to be released this September.

Thanks
