@Anonymoose3 Nope. I would speculate that they probably sent them out sometime on or after the day the results came out, as to avoid having someone receive their W9 form before the decisions. Or maybe they are waiting for finalist decisions to come out; perhaps they want to avoid the complication of giving a W9 form for $1,000 dollars and a separate one for Finalists. I’m not sure though–just speculating.
@guilou25 - I got mine today; was wondering if that meant I’m likely not a finalist, lol.

I got mine today. Live in South central US. I actually doubt getting the package has anything to do with finalist status. They probably realize there are people who like to analyze small stuff like this. And I think if this was the case, it would be pretty obvious if you were finalist before the decisions came out if your friends got the forms but you didn’t like a week before the announcement.

what do you think the criteria for selecting finalists are? do you think it’s solely based on how innovative or proficient the research is or is it more on a holistic basis?
With regard to the W9- it is not amount specific, so I would think they would be able to use it for any award given.
@bearcon - the website states: “The top 300 entries are named semifinalists and are then reviewed again by a panel of 15 distinguished scientists from a variety of disciplines.” also-“Each qualified project is scored based upon the online application questions, the Research Report, and the overall scientific potential of the student.” Sounds like a little bit of both.
OK, it seems like the badges are up but somehow incomplete… For one I don’t have the Entrant badge but the Semifinalist badge… Is this possible? Or are they still being uploaded?
The badges take a long time for them to generate. Top winner of Siemens doesn’t even have an entrant badge yet let alone semifinalist one. The badges mean nothing. Some finalists have gotten neither of the two special ones. Many that get both don’t become finalists. Do t think the badges mean much if one looks at the past two years.
Did everyone get the email about the badging a few days ago? Those who have claimed them already and those whose aren’t listed yet?
I received it January 11. I’m a SF but it was worded as if to all entrants. Did everyone receive it?
Yes I received it. I doubt there are any sort of noticeable clues to predict whether or not we are finalists.
How many of you updated colleges? I emailed them like a week ago and only had 3 respond. Should I be worried if they don’t respond?

Also, I don’t think they really reply. They just print it out and stick it in your file.
Are any semifinalists on CC still missing badges? The email from Jan 11 said all entrants would be notified about claiming badges by today, but it seems many are still missing on the badging website. Has everyone here received a follow up email since then about claiming their badges?
