Intel STS?

I recently came upon this and was thinking about doing some work in the lab in microbiology/medicine.

Anyway, I was wondering...

If you submit something to this but do not get recognized as a semifinalist, will just the mere fact that you spend time (a year or two) in lab and submitted the research report help with colleges?

I'm trying to do everything I can, and I think I can do a great job with the STS because it really captures what I want to do.

Thanks.

I think putting "applied to Intel STS" will look stupid on an application. Research certainly helps. You should also think about getting a supplemental rec from your lab mentor.

What is 'the lab'?

I meant to be general, because I am not entirely sure. I am trying to think something up. I know someone at UCLA where I can have access to a lab/be "mentored."

I was thinking about doing something in the direction of autoimmune diseases, antigens, allergens, something of the sort. This guy is doing research of Rheumatoid Arthritis and I have a feeling working with him will give me a great idea. I'm only a sophomore and still trying to get a feel of this project.

Would you just mention research on the app?

anybody?(10chars)

Yes. [ 10 char ]

i'm having that trouble too
if I do "research" but dont win any major awards
will it still help?
