Deferred at Bates

Deferred at Harvard :) ...

Accepted--Cornell ED Engineering

I feel really stupid for asking this, but what does deferred mean? [blush]

The applications of students who are deferred will be reviewed one more time with the applicant pool of Regular Decision candidates. And don't feel uncomfortable to ask about things you don't know:) we are learning

To bogororo:
do you mind posting your stats? I am also applying ED to Bates, and I assess my chances as quite slim.

kimqwerty, tell me ur not jeffrey
btw, deferred from harvard with 1580 even tho sat means nothing (supposedly)

I know a girl from China got admitted into Harvard along with another Indian guy(Under Early Decision). They are the only two persons accepted at Harvard under early decision from Asia, according the news media.

i believe that it was a girl from India (screen name 'ritz' on CC) please see her posts at the beginning of this thread. And yes, she was the only 1 from India

in @ williams. they are really generous.

The girl from China wasn't even a great student...she was ranked about 100 out of her class of 400.

what was her hook, then?

I got into Williams

one guy from my school got into JHU, BME major

a person from bangladesh has also been admitted (harvard ea)

rejected from yale (i feel so embarraced :()

Harvard does indeed take academic factors into serious consideration, but not every student accepted at Harvard is nerdy. The Chinese girl who was admitted into Harvard has got exceptional leadership abilities and her extraordinary experience won over the heart of the admission committee.Read the whole story, then make judgement about the girl's admittance into Harvard.Harvard does not randomly pick people.

hey meder what r ur stats...if u dnt mind me asking, and dnt worry bout it btw maybe its for the best

I don't think it is too appropriate to look at students from schools in China by ranking. There are some schools in China in which every student is extremely talented (and hardworking), making the classes very competitive. There might be 99 people in front of her, but they might only differed in a tiny 0.001 point in their total scores. That's what happen in my brother's school.

And of course, she has "exceptional leadership abilities", isn't it?

But certainly this girl is not the only one from China to be accepted to Harvard EA because i personally know 3 more students who got accepted from China.

Thing is, if her ranking wasn't exceptional then surely her teacher's recommendations won't be anything impressive either. From the article I've read even the teachers themselves commented that she wasn't the most overachieving student. Her hook might be her exchange student experience in the States.
