When I applied to Columbia ED, I put that I was interested in pursuing Math or Applied Math for my major interests in Columbia College. Now I see that Columbia’s applied math department is a part of Columbia Engineering? Is this a stupid mistake that I made? After doing some digging, it is still unclear to me whether students at the College can major in applied mathematics without doing a special 3-2 program. Does anyone know how this might affect the rest of my app? I basically chose to put applied math on there last second, because I mentioned some of their research opportunities in my supplement.
I am a pure math major at Columbia College but there is an applied math major within the Columbia College Math department and I know many people in the College that are majoring in Applied Math. Also for yours and others’ information, intended major is really not an important part of the application. It can be used to supplement your interest in a certain discipline, which you seemed to do.
