intense feeling of buyer's remorse :(... need help.

So it seems like the college process is almost over.. only about 3 more weeks until the dreaded decisions come out and the only thing on my mind is how much I regret my college list. So much has changed about me since summer/fall of this year that what I want out of a college has simply changed drastically. Being so naive led me to apply to almost 10 schools I don't even want anymore (yes I applied to a lot), but I was wondering.. is there any hope that any school will accept late applications? I am so depressed, I am already looking at transfer applications.

Well, here are the schools I applied to that I really like:
Brown (No chance, but praying HARD)
Dartmouth (No chance, but praying HARD)
Tufts (3 hour interview, did 2 supplemental essays... but still a reach)
U. Rochester (i dont know, decisions are coming soon, but I am in range, I think this is my match)

While I am "ok" with going to other schools on my list (my list is quite hefty), are there any schools that would be willing to take late apps that are similar to the above 4?

I started looking into Vassar and some of the Maine LAC's and while I probably won't have a chance, I think now is the only time I can probably try and ask for late applications before I'll be considered a transfer.

1) If you're going to send in a late application, you need to do it NOW. Many colleges will have their decisions made by the end of next week.

2) <a href="http://www.nacacnet.org/MemberPortal/%5B/url%5D">http://www.nacacnet.org/MemberPortal/</a>
In early May, they'll post colleges with slots still open. In past years, some top schools have been on the list.

3) <a href="http://www.princetonreview.com/college/apply/articles/types/deadlines.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.princetonreview.com/college/apply/articles/types/deadlines.asp</a></p>

thanks for the advice, but how often do selective LAC's or colleges allow late applications?

I've heard it done before, but not this late.

In what ways did your college interests change? Did you decide against universities in general in favor of LACs? Tufts and U of Rochester are great schools. You might regret passing them up. Personally, I would prefer them over Vassar and the Maine LACs. What do you want as your major? How could you possibly be unhappy with Tufts and U Rochester? By the way, 10 schools is not too many.

If you get into Brown or Dartmouth, go there. If you get into Tufts or U Rochester, give them a year before you consider a transfer. I think you gave your indecision the right name...buyer's remorse. Forgetaboutit.

oh definitely! If i get into brown, dartmouth, tufts, or U of R, i will go most definitely, I just listed those because I feel like they are the only ones on my list that i really like.. which is why I am considering applying to some LAC's similar to those colleges. From the very beginning, I was dumb and naive and thought the whole new england prep, rich frat kid partying, pre-professional atmosphere is what I wanted (dickinson, lehigh, lafayette), but I definitely do not want that now. I want the community and tight-knit feel of dartmouth. I plan on majoring in german, philosophy, or both.

Yeah along with the parties of Dartmouth comes an intellectual LACy coziness. Good luck!

Why not consider a gap year? Dartmouth and Brown are going to be really hard with a 1280 this year. Even Tufts seems a real longshot. Yet with a n interesting gap year you will have more to offer, you can work on scores and apply to schools with your new insight. What's a year to be where you really want?

I never took a gap year into consideration. If I took a gap year, would I reapply as a freshman or a transfer?

PS: 4 of 6 schools replied with a no for late apps, so oh well.. I can only pray that being a male engineer will help me into brown or all the supplement essays/good interview work for tufts, but Rochester seems reasonable right now. I am in range and their acceptance rate is 50%.

You would be applying as an incoming freshman. You are only a transfer applicant if you've been to college for a year or more.
