Intensive Immersion Program after graduation

Hello. I already graduated from college, but I really want to move to South America and take immersion classes for around 4-6 months. I studied abroad in France while in school and then spent 3 months in Brazil and am now living in South Korea teaching English, so I'm definitely not concerned about culture shock.

So do you guys know of any good programs? Any suggestions at all? I'm really looking at Santiago and doing a homestay (or some way to live with Spanish speaking university students)

Hey Nochance,

4-6 months is a pretty cool amount of time to spend in South America, so I’m not so sure “nochance” is the best name for you! :)

I spent time doing just what you’re gonna do, but I did it in Europe, not South America. There are three places, though, that I’d love to study in if I go to South America. Santiago is one of them. The others are Montevideo, in Uruguay–I know nothing about the place but it interests me and it looks pretty cool in pictures. The other one is Buenos Aires – yes, I know-- very original.

Here’s a link for schools in Santiago–this is the site I get most of my language school info from. You said you studied in France so I guess you know how all this works and you’ll see why I like the site:

[Spanish Schools in South America and Portuguese Schools in Brazil.](http://languageschoollinks.com/navpages/language_schools_south_america.html)
[Spanish in Santiago Chile. Learn Spanish at a Spanish Language School in Santiago, Chile.](http://languageschoollinks.com/chile/spanish_in_santiago.html)

First link is for South America, second for Santiago–just for the heck of it (since i wish I were going) I looked at the Santiago page and it lists 4 schools, doesn’t include any universities in Santiago but there must be some…

I wish I could say more about the schools in Santiago, but I haven’t been–not yet! I did find some really good schools that I went to on languageschoollinks (you have the link above) and from what I have seen the schools listed are all good, have homestays, etc., so it’s probably a good place to start looking.

Also, [Study Abroad & Study Abroad Summer, Internship, Language & Scholarship Programs - StudyAbroad.com](http://www.studyabroad.com), [Study Abroad, Volunteer, Intern, Teach - GoAbroad.com](http://www.goabroad.com) that list programs, or companies that organize programs.

From what I’ve seen, nearly all of the language schools arrange homestays if that’s what you want. In some cases they’re the only housing options…

btw, when I learned Spanish and could start to really understand it, I found that there are a lot of great movies that come out of South America – Chile and Argentina in particular. Cool stuff.
