Intensive Law and Trial Summer Program

All right, I just received a letter for a summer program called "Intensive Law and Trial" from Envision and Stanford Law School. Has anyone been to this before, or is this something new? I've scoured College Confidential for potential information, but it seems that I've come up relatively short. Reading some older forums, I know that there are certainly some programs out there that aren't truly "all that," as the opening letter would claim. There is a fee to participate, but what made me look more closely at this was the fact that the letter stated that "Envision" is working in conjunction with Stanford Law. I looked at Google for some more info about whatever "Envision Career Forum" is, and I found out that it's a for-profit education company. I can honestly go on and describe the kinda professional-looking stationary that the letter came in and the gold-seal business, but I just want to know what this is about. Thank you!

Ok, so since no one has responded, I’ll post my opinion but again it’s not based on any information received from someone who has attended. I don’t think that this program has really anything to do with Stanford other than being held at the school and getting some type of permission from them to use their name. I’m not sure that I would consider that a bona fide endorsement of the educational rigor of the program. Are there any law faculty who will be teaching at the summer program? It’s put on by a company who specializes in these types of programming for youth. It’a a for profit company. And I think they have mass mail outs to see who responds. It’s expensive. Generally speaking the most prestigious summer programs will be free. But they are very competitive. And some of them are taught by the university staff/professors. That’s not to say there is no merit to this program- just know what it offers and how you can maximize the opportunity for yourself. Know of one girl personally who was invited and really excited about it. Father is really proud of her for getting the invite and seriously considering scraping up the money to attend. Couldn’t really tell them what I just told you but they weren’t asking for my opinion, just wanted to share the news. I would say, if you could afford it without noticing the money gone from your bank account, go. But if you can’t, find some quality summer experience that is free or lower cost.

I know it’s been many months since the original post. My daughter (16, going into junior year in high school) is currently attending the Envision Intensive Law and Trial program at Standford. Yes it is pricey but reasonable considering she does get 3 college credits for attending. So far we’ve both been impressed and thrilled with the program. There are indeed Stanford law professors who teach portions of the program. It is a packed agenda - hence the name Intensive! - and very professionally run. The communication with parent and student before and during the program has been wonderful. We are only 2 days into the 10 day program so if anything changes I will post an update. But from a parent’s perspective I would give this a try if you think you have an interest in law as a career.

So how was the program? My daughter received a letter for the summer intensive trial program at Stanford. Im sure it’s a mass mailing, but it has her excited so I don’t want to burst her bubble and question it’s legitimacy in front of her. How much did it cost? And is it at Stanford Law campus in CA? Any help here would be appreciated.

I was invited to and yes it is in Palo Alto California. I’m trying to figure out the cost as well

I was invited as well, and the program costs a little under $3300. It’s quite expensive.

How did you figure that out and do you know what’s included in the price?

Is the program selective? Do they have scholarship or financial aid?

Does anyone happen to know how they get your address? Also I just got a letter today. I’m looking into scholarships, How competitive are the scholarships?

My daughter got an invitation – it was generated from a survey that she completed at school as part of the counseling program. Any updates on your experience with the program?

This post seems to be running since three years ago, but hopefully you can see this sometime soon. A week or two ago I was sent this packet from the NSLC, the National Student Leadership Conference, and I was pumped. It threw out a bunch of colleges and offered the opportunity to visit a campus for a week. I was excited but I also skeptical, so I asked my school counselor. Bottom line, it’s a business. What he described as was a business that rents dorms from colleges and sells them back to kids for a week. My bubble was bursted. Come today, I receive the invitation from Stanford. I open the letter with my NSLC experience, and make sure I’m not very hopeful. I read the letter and it basically says in invited to stay a week at Stanford and attend the program. In the letter they give me the ID they made me on their website. So I try to enroll on the website and the very first thing they ask from me is how I’m gonna pay. And that was today. So I’m replying now to, I guess, compare and maybe learn from what you’re going through.
