<p>Don’t use American college schemes or private companies, they’re very expensive and rather poor in quality. Many European universities offer international summer schools, off the top of my head I think Heidelberg University has a German language summer school for foreigners. Google around and you will find others.</p>
<p>Goethe Institute, in Germany. If you are serious, you want something that isn’t a tourist program in disguise or where you can’t easily slip into English with other students. It also depends on your goals- why you want to learn German and at what level. If you’re a complete newbie, you can start with Rosetta Stone, save yourself the travel expenses, do the immersion another time.</p>
