I was admitted into the faculty of arts, I committed, and will attend this autumn! I never applied to the ba&sci program because my stats were a little below the cut off and I hadn’t taken the prerequisite courses in school. I attended a US high school so I’m planning to start with U0 in arts.
I’m really interested in psychology, linguistics, and art history (visual arts), and after reading up on the mcgill website, I found the cognitive science program in ba&sci and it seems perfect for me and my interests!
But obviously I’m not in ba&sci, so I was wondering if anyone has transferred from arts to art sci or knows anyone who has. I want to know how competitive/difficult it is to transfer and what the requirements are.
I’ve been looking for information on that but I can’t seem to find it on the websites.
Thanks!
Interfaculty transfer is competitive. You would apply at the end of first year. Transfer will be based on your first year GPA. If you have a high GPA your chances are good.
(Transfer into Desautels is nearly impossible but Arts&Science is doable)
Hi - my D was in Arts but split her time in another faculty by taking a minor (in her case, a minor in management from Desautels), perhaps a minor in your interest of study could be another option for you to look into. TomSrOfBoston is correct that is important to keep up your GPA in your first year.
thank you for your response! the problem with doing that, is that i don’t necessarily have interests outside of the arts faculty. so if i were to stay in arts i’d probably do double major psych and linguistics or major in psych minor in linguistics. but the reason why i want to go into the cognitive science major in art sci is because of the inter disciplinary nature and the ability to study the range of things from neuroscience to linguistics. i’ll definitely try my best to keep my gpa up for the first year though!
@TomSrOfBoston I applied for interfaculty transfer from arts to management in fall, so far the application status is still submitted. But the enrollment service told me that they will tell me the decision in mid-July. I am really nervous as you said it is nearly impossible to be accepted( my CGPA is 3.72 around).
What a coincidence! I was thinking of doing the exact same thing, except I wanted the Cognitive Science focus on computer science :). However, I was wondering if anyone knew which classes to take that would allow for a smoother transfer. (U0 student)
