^ are you sure you were in china? =/

lololol yes i’m sure. it’s when i’m in either shanghai/beijing though. the main “City” cities. not like in the other provinces/cities.

The problem is that the “ideal man” is tall, dark, and handsome. The “ideal woman” is fair with fine and delicate features. Black men fit the description. So do Asian women. But the Asian men and black women get shortchanged.

The “dark” in tall dark and handsome rarely = black. But I see where you’re coming from. I think it has to do with the way both races are fetishized/stereotyped. Asians are often thought of as passive, which is thought of more positively for women, whereas blacks are seen as hypersexual, which is thought of more positively for men.

staind: seriously, I am a black female and I am not repulsive, 200+ pounds, or ignorant. I have always been taught to be classy. I live on the east coast in maryland, but I doubt that there is a single black girl where you live who doesnt fit your description.

Hey, I used to live in Maryland! D.C. Metro area.

Sorry, that was randomly OT.

I am not attracted to black women.

There’s a half-black/half-Japanese guy on the new Big Brother to add to whatshisname’s earlier list.

well your name is generallyrong…

Yeah, um generally us african girls are screwed dating wise.
But all j/k aside. Op, you will generally find the asians don’t consider black women attractive. One reason for this is the prevailing sterotype of black women which is ghetto, fat and ugly. Exceptions include popular supermodels such as Tyra. While these women are still black- they often do not look like most black women. They possess delicate noses and such. Large broad noses and big lips are cultural african traits.

Also, white is pretty. American media has spent a lot of money trying to market that cultural myth to the world. Don’t believe me- look at skin whitening commercials. Being that America considers slender, white beauty attractive and it is a global superpower- other countries will try to adapt to what the " American media" considers pretty to sell to the American public and b/c copying is the sincerest form of flattery. This behavior sadly does not exclude China or other asian countries. Therefore most asian men will not be atracted to black women due to this. Then secondly, you have to realize that there are vast discrepancies between traditional african culture and asian culture.
ex: Red is lucky in China.
In my culture (african) red is a symbol of blood and death.

So often both people would not even have the same cultural refrences and grandparents on both sides would dislike the union.

Finally, to hammer the hard truth- there is a double standard between succesful black men and women in our culture. A black men who is married to a white woman would be met with disapprobation, but grudging acceptance. A black woman, on the other hand is expected to wait till the right black dude comes along.
So, african women are often largely unavailable to asian men.

I think you should revise your thesis. Due to media driven sterotypes, a lack of common ground between two cultures and the double standard between black men and black women asian men are largely uniterested in black women and black women are largely unavailable.
I’m sorry I wrote a book.
Hope this helps.

^Good post.

that was truly insightful and so true…thanx for your post

Another thing, that I was typing in an earlier response before a bird got stuck in my house (OMG! That was an ordeal), is that African-American ideal of female beauty do not align with Asian (or white/mainstream American) ideal. I don’t mean to say that Asian & white ideals are the same, but they align better and as many more Asians many whites than marry any other race besides Asian, as race as defined America, the white ideal may be seen as somewhat acceptable. Nor do I mean to say that many AA women don’t pursue the white ideal of beauty, as the white ideal is pervasive and influences anyone in America.

The ideal for black women is categorized by a full body tone, nice sized breasts, a small waist, a flat stomach, a shapely behind, and nice looking thighs. This is a “curvier” shape than the Asian or white ideal. And as this ideal as is unattainable as any ideal of beauty, it’s worth mentioning that the average black woman is heavier, darker, and curvier than the average Asian woman, which is to say that she deviates more greatly from the ideal, and as she is also heavier, darker, and curvier than the average white woman, she deviates more greatly from what may be considered an acceptable ideal.

Of course, it one-sided that most of us, including me of course, are writing from a “male gaze” POV and not considering why or why not the black female finds the Asian male attractive, but I don’t know much about that and my personal anecdotes would hardly be helpful.

Hey Millancad- the part of your post I picked up was the male gaze part and it rings to me from the book I was reading. Women are always looking at themselves from outside themselves. Many painting/statues 1700s- onward in european culture showed nude pictures of women. The female form was always to be examined and admired. We as women never look down at ourselves to see us as we are to ourselves. Rarely is the famale gaze portrayed- looking at men ( usually in nude) and deciding that they are attractive.
However, I think things are getting better. AXE hair commercial- girl approved hair?
I’m fascinated by the idea of women constantly looking at themselves through someone else’s eyes- as if we have internalized some of the sexism.
Sorry to go on the ramble- i couldn’t help it. I’m bored and obssessed with gender equality.

Yeah, I’m bored, into gender equity, and I took Art History (which talks a lot about male gaze once you get to more modern art) this year. So, I’m basically the same.
The thing is, that even when you look at cultures that sculpted a lot of nude males, i.e. Greek, Roman, etc, it’s still the male gaze. Especially Hellenistic art, which is often erotic, eg: Barberini Faun. The pictures were by men looking at men, for men looking at men. Even when they’re nude males, it’s still male gaze! Sigh.

thats really interesting and disturbing at the same time…but i am tired of having to meet male standards

It is dissapointing - I think though we need to find a way to fix our internalized male gaze. However, on a completely different stream of thought- think about saphhic poetry- that was definately the female gaze. i wonder if saphicc poetry is an example of the true nature of female sexuality if it were allowed to grow undisturbed?

“I am a black female and I am not repulsive, 200+ pounds, or ignorant. I have always been taught to be classy.”

hope that’s workin’ for you.
