Interactions between UNC students and students from other schools in the area

is the Chapel Hill area anywhere near other colleges in NC? is their any kind of get together with students from other universities in the area?

thanks in advance

it's like 20 mins. away from nc state and really close to duke as well, so it's actually really close to other schools.

Yes, there is definitely interaction with other schools. Duke, UNC, and NC State (Wake Forest to a much lesser extent) are part of the Research Triangle, so there is a great deal of interaction, academically and socially. Duke and UNC are particularly close distance-wise, and students can use the other uni's resources. I've known students from all three schools to plan a trip to the NC mountains or beach over breaks. Competition also exists, of course. Games are another great way to interact with people from other schools. A Duke/UNC game can get very crazy... :)

Yeah, we are a few minutes from Dook, but with traffic and all, we are about 30 to 50 minutes from NCSU. So there is a lot of interaction. Since there is really no big time "mall" shopping in Chapel Hill, a lot of students head over to Southpoint in Durham. You can always find a lot of students from other schools at Southpoint. If you are lucky to get a ticket via the lotto, slim to none chance, then that interaction is awesome too. There will be a few Dookies at the Dean Dome when we play them. Wake is kind of far away... so there is really no interaction with students from there. However, when we play there, it can be fun. A lot of students do go to the mountains, or head to other "fun" cities in NC such as Greenville (ECU) and the beaches when the weather is warm. So there is some things to do when you get bored of Chapel Hill.

haha i remember one time I was out South Point waiting for the TTA to take me back to UNC and I was sitting next to this group of state students. omg this one was so loud and dumb. Here's a quote of something he said, "I wish I was in Austrailia, it doesn't get cold there." I laughed my ass off, didn't mention i was a carolina student cause I was out numbered, but jeez come on. But really the only interaction i've done with the other school was cursing at state students at the football game, and yelling at dook students(prolly just fans cause its rare to see a dookie out of their natural habitat of a library)

is the "ranking" sort of like:
1. Duke
2. UNC
3. NCS

(in terms of academics that is, with in NC of course)

there is a bus (the robertson scholars bus) that runs back and forth between Duke and UNC all the time (free of charge) so you can always go to the other campus if you want to

i'm asking this just because i'm not from the states, i'm not familiar with how things work, i'm just trying to learn of what I might encounter next year...
