interdisciplinary at CMU - sciences and humanities!

I'm writing my WHY CMU essay. I'm an undecided major, and I am applying to HSS because of my interest in history.

But i also am interested in biology, and want to mention both interests in my essay to show what my passions are and what kind of programs and courses i'd like to take at CMU.

while researching the cmu site, I came across a list of interdisciplinary programs, one of which combined the sciences and the humanities.

I was wondering,.. if one decides to participate in this intersciplinary program, does he or she have to choose to do so when applying as a freshman, or is it possible to join the program while a student at CMU?

only have knowledge for HCI.
Intention is voiced as a freshman. Selection occurs based on freshman+ grades, interest, and space availability.

Guess that most interdisciplinary/cross school programs work the same. DS (me '06)voiced interest in his original application but knew that HCI was only available on separate process and as sophomore, dual major.
