Interest in films

I have a deep interest in films. I've written a number of movie reviews which were published in the newspapers and film magazines. Do you think I should include some of my best movie reviews in my application?

And besides that, I screenwrite as a hobby. Should I also send in one of my best screenplays (a short film)?

Thanks.

What newspapers or film magazines have your reviews been published in?
It sounds like it could be something very interesting to include if it is of true quality.

Good Luck

I would include with the application a list of your published reviews--title of review-name of film-- where/when published. Use your essay to talk about your love of film--your writing talent should shine through here. If the college asks for a paper--they usually want a graded high school paper- I would not send the screenplay unless you are explicitly applying to a film-screen-writing program.

Oh, I'm an international student, so you wouldn't know the newspapers and magazine. [insert sticking-out-tongue smiley here, which I don't know how]

By the way, do US colleges 'recruit' students who are good movie critics/screenwriters? Maybe for the college newspaper?

If you have an issue of the paper/magazine, I would include it (original, not copy) with your application.

My D wrote & co-directed a short film last year that won numerous awards and placed top 12 nationwide. She isn't intending to major in film (it is a huge interest for her however), and submitted the DVD along with the commendations. A couple of her recs (including mid-year report) also mentioned these ECs & awards.

She was accepted in her schools, including one which was a sincere reach for her. In addition, one school even tossed her a huge (HUGE) 4 year art scholarship which she never even applied for.

Even if you're not considering majoring in this field, it still shows commitment, and showing it physically (the papers/magazine issues) brings something to the table many are unable to do.
