interested in business and culinary but i need some help!

ok so i'm a high school junior and i'm so confused about what i should do when i start school... i'm interested in business and i'm interested in culinary arts but idk what route i should take to accomplish my goals. i really want to start a restaurant when i'm older so should i 1. double major in business ad. and hospitality management 2. major in hospitality management alone 3. major in business management alone and then attend a culinary arts school or 4. go straight to culinary arts school?

Do you love food and to cook or do you simply love the idea of owning and managing a restaurant?

I loooooooooove cooking if that helps any lol

It does: you should do culinary school. If you would rather be in the kitchen than the office, it makes more sense for you. You’ll get a taste of how the kitchen is run and when you open your own restraunt, you could read a couple accounting books or hire an accountant for business aspects you need help with.

ok thanks… that helps

I agree. Go to culinary school and work in a restaurant and learn how it works. As a foodie, it is pretty easy to tell when a restaurant is owned and ran by a chef versus a businessperson. Work your way up and you’ll learn all you need to know about running a restaurant. As Openskittles said you can always hire an accountant to work the books for you.

Consider Johnson & Wales, even though I despise the school. I was talking to a classmate who went to CIA and transferred to JWU. He said that at JWU it’s emphasized on management more than culinary arts compared to CIA where it’s all culinary arts. You take classes like hospitality accounting also. There’s all types of hospitality management majors from food service, restaurant, sports & entertainment, hotels, etc. Best of luck. Maybe work at a restaurant to get a feel of how the culinary industry is like? Cause you will be working LONG hours everyday along with holidays. Join the boat with me as a hospitality major haha and not be with the family during holidays cause you have to work most likely. :(
