Im a freshman at gallatin and i would just like to bring this school up, before applying to CAS do some research about gallatin, post me a question on this thread. I dont want to type any kind of rant out here but i'll say this:

Right my my class sizes are as follows: 200ish (econ I), 20,20,20. My advisor has helped me in so many ways and she is in charge of me, and only around 8 other freshman, i feel that i can talk to her about anything. Gallatin matches you with an advisor based on a little pre-orientation application that you fill out.

I'm planning on applying for Gallatin as a sophomore transfer, because I find that I can't achieve all that I want to in college, namely NYU, in terms of academic fulfillment, internships, study abroad, etc. if I don't transfer after my first year. If it helps, I'm enrolled in a prestigious honors college at a two year college in Florida. Everyone who graduates from the program gets accepted into their school of choice upon graduation with a two-year honors diploma. We are required to maintain a minimum of a 3.5 GPA throughout the course of the honors curriculum or we get kicked out, and we have a bi-weekly colliloqia. The courses are substantially more difficult than comparable college courses elsewhere. I also plan on joining Phi Beta Lamda (College version of Future Business Leaders of America), and Phi Theta Kappa (2 year college honor society) as well. Gallatin is the only place I feel I can fulfill what I'm looking for academically. I want to combine my interests in music business/marketing, film, and broadcast journalism, while dabbling in a few other courses, possibly in music production and photography as electives. I also want to go to NYU because of the amazing internship and job opportunities available in NYC, as well as the opportunity to study abroad in London, while interning at a record label there. Do you have any advice or tips on applying to Gallatin in order to improve my chances of getting accepted as a fall transfer student? Also, do you know if Gallatin gives scholarships to students, namely transfers? Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you soon!

You want to emphasize the fact that you are individualized and be specific when describing your interests and show how gallatin can help you study exactly those things. I dont know about scholarships, but NYU in general is stingy with scholarships for anyone. Taking what you said into account Im sure you'll get in. If your so interested in buisiness why not apply to stern?

The thing with me is that I want to study Music Business, not just business. Plus, Stern is HYPER-competitive. And NYU does have a music business major at Steinhardt, but the curriculum isn't what I'm looking for academically. I want to mix a production minor along with music business, broadcast journalism, and possibly music recording. Gallatin is the only place where I can combine all these interests together. I want to take bits and pieces of the curriculums and mix and match them together. Anything else I should do to help me get in? I feel like if I don't go for at least 3 years, I won't get all that I want out of it. :/

what are required classes (are there any)
and
yeah
i want to major in languages basically
i want to become fluent in 4 +
right now obviously im fluent in english (it's my 1st language)
and
right now im in AP spanish
and im also gonna take some spanish ata local community college b4 i graduate highschool,
so im thinking i wont be taking too many spanish classes in college, since im midly proficient
Like i can keep a conversation going at a decent level

umm
and i want to take italian
...
oh
and by the time im out of highschool
i should have taken through honors japanese 4 also

but yeah im a languages freak.
after becoming fluent in languages, i want to be a languages teacher, probably for highschool level.
So i'll prolly go to a grad school for education

but yeah
do u think they would consider taking 3 foreign languages pretty individualized...
oh,
and i want to take more too (either latin or greek)
and maybe somethin else

You just have to take a first year seminar, and the gallatin writing classes, thats about it. Studying a bunch of languages sounds cool. You can definatly pull that off at gallatin, you can even study languages and politics and economics or something, its all open to you. There are some BASIC requirments (some humanities, 1 math or science, i think thats it actually lol) its very straight forward. I have some things for you to consider: During orientation there are placement tests for you to test out of languages, but you can only take one because they are offered at once, but i dont think thats too much of a problem. there is also somethign called speaking freely, its like a class sort of but not for credit and attendance is optional, basically its a bunch of peple studying a certain language getting together with a professor just learning it. Look it up for more info, just google Speaking freely.

well
would i need to take a placement test for spanish if i take the AP test and score a 4 or 5
by the time i graduate highschool, i should have completed Ap spanish 4
and Honors Japanese 4

and yeah
Speaking freely sounds cool. i just looked it up.

and
do u think i could get in with a almost a 3.4uw (its actually 3.37uw) gpa
and a 32 act

Yeah
im taking 2 honors classes
and next year i take 5 ap's and 1 honors

What do Gallatin admission officers look for in a candidate? Any tips on what I should say in my essay? My current college also does not offer minors, think that would help since I want to study more subjects outside of my major?
