I am interested in applying for the MArch 3 program at a few schools (a program for people who already have a bachelors degree in a non-architecture related field). I have been interested in becoming an architect for a long time, and now I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. My only problem is is that I am not really that artistic to make a creative portfolio. I can draw pretty well but thats about it.... so does anyone have any advice about this and/or what i should do about creating and what i should put into a portfolio?? any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Contact the schools that you are interested and ask what they want for a portfolio. Most schools have example portfolios you can view. Compare that work with what you can do then seek help to boost your work; art classes at a local CC, photography classes, any kind of creative work, even creative writing. You be surprised to learn they will be looking for creativity and the ability to convey that, not necessarily drawing skills.

I just finished my portfolio for KU and was accepted. They had a list of minimum requirements on their website so I follow that very closely. I had taken a year at a community college so I had work to show. In your case you don't have a lot of past work. The requirements for the 3 year masters should be a little less demanding than the 5 year portfolio simply due to less people applying. I wish I could show you an example of my portfolio because it took me weeks to put together and looked everywhere for examples and could not find any. Here are some of the things they wanted to see in my portfolio.

-Pencil on vellum
-Ink on vellum
-Perspective drawings (one and two point)
-Free hand sketches (they required two sketchbooks)
-Design process of making models
-Photos of models
-Drawings to support the models (plan, elevation, etc.)
-The portfolio itself wanted to be creative, not just expensive store bought.

I hope this helps.
