Interested In miami

I'm going to be a senior from new york state. i am just starting to research this school. can anyone tell me about it? what do u need as far as SATs, gpa? hard if out of state?

I'm not sure if there's a rule about posting other websites, but if you go to the Miami website and look under admissions, there's a profile of the class of 2009.

The 25-75% range for this year was:
Class rank: top 6-24%
SAT: 1150 to 1310 (old SAT)
ACT: 24-28

The acceptance rate for both out-of-state and in-state students is normally around 70%.

Okay thanks for the info! Do you attend miami or are you interested in it?

I'll be a freshman there this fall.

what are you majoring in?

At the moment I'm majoring in zoology and doing the pre-med focus. I might end up double majoring in German as well, but I'm not sure... there are too many things, LOL.

Im interested in Miami because they have the program i'm looking for..but i have heard that the girls there are all prissy and you cant go anywhere in sweats..did you get that impression at all?

Sar425-
I have posted before about Miami, but I don't know where those posts have gone, archives maybe?
Anyway, in short, I am an alum, now in my 40s [old lady I know-LOL] but I keep in close touch with "Mother Miami" and what is going on there. Considering that I and my "prissy sorority sisters" practicly lived in our sweats and the women who attend now that I have met are not that much different, I'd say whoever told you about "cant go anywhere in sweats" don't know what they are talking about.

My four years there were incredible and I wouldn't give up that time or that college experience for anything. Every single fellow alum I know feels the same - that may mean something.

We all got great jobs too - if that is your objective post-grad, they have a fine career planning and placement office that recruits many recruiters to come to campus. My friends that went on to grad school also had a pretty easy time of it admissions and academic wise.

I urge you to visit campus if you haven't already and talk to as many current students as you can. Also, feel free to pm me with anything else I can answer for you.

What program are you looking for? I majored in business and I have close friends who went through the school of education, school of architecture, some that were pre-med and some that were pre-law.

Hope this helps.

Miami is interested in getting people from other states so it isn't quite as hard to get in out of state as you would think. My mom went to Miami as did my grandmother, aunt, and grandfather. I've heard nothing but praises my entire life and now I'm really looking forward to applying there next year. Miami is my safety that I love. Check it out, request some info I'm sure you will really like it.

"Miami is my safety that I love."
:o
I smiled when I read this, my D [rising hs sophomore] when asked this past summer "If you had to pick now and $ and admissions were not a factor, where would you go to college?" Answered without hesitation, "Miami! Because I feel like it is home and I love it." When she was 4 my h asked her if she knew what Miami was and she answered, "That's where you go after high school." Guess many legacies feel the same way...

believersmom-thanks that helped a lot i guess i should just visit the school and see for myself..i am interested in exercise science as my major.

Well, according to the website, they offer it...so that's good.

Good Luck. Homecoming is the weekend of Sept. 10th, I'll be there then, maybe we'll see you??????

Bump-
For those checking out MUOhio right now

miami looks great in the viewbooks but you have to actually hang out there to see what it is about (and i dont mean a walking tour). Its nowhere near worth the cost and unless you plan on winning the harrison scholarship i dont see any reason to go

Bumping for momsworried. See post #8 above...

Bumping up for this year's researchers...

Once again, for believersmom, bumpity bump

Bumping up for all interested.

Bumping up

Bumping up to keep it on the front page.
