Interested in Seeing Ways to Improve my Application

wow…ur safety is a dream school to some
ur in to all the places u appy
thanks to ur gpa, sat, and race

ur welcome

Stanford doesn’t really care if you’re hispanics. It’s pretty decent stats but Stanford and Ivy are always hit and miss. I guess you can start praying, go to the church more often.

are you going to take the SAT 1 again? How much did you study for the SAT 1 in freshmen year? I’m amazed

This is advice from a current senior, and one that I wish I would’ve received when I was at your age:

Look at more liberal arts schools. Take the time to look around the LAC forum, and you will probably understand more what you would look for in a college. What you essentially have now is a bunch of reaches ( for anyone) and your state flagship, not any real targets or safeties that you would love love. My two cents :3

Serafina,

Indeed, I hope to give LACs a more serious look.

“are you going to take the SAT 1 again? How much did you study for the SAT 1 in freshmen year? I’m amazed”

I hadn’t studied for it. I’m intending to retake in January or March; my practice tests have been promising.

If you want a hook, you need to show passion and initiative. Take something you love and take it to the national or even international level. That will make you stand out.

Chance back?

A few updates in case any are interested in offering more advice:

Rank: 1/421

New ECs: Team Leader, Peer Tutoring Club; Project Leader, Interact Club (volunteering organization)

Subject Test Scores: 790 Math Level 2, 710 Chemistry; will retake both at end of this year, as well as Literature and one of the Biology Tests

I’ve begun to volunteer regularly for various organizations by performing my piano music at their charitable events

Having taken the PSAT, I am confident that I will qualify for National Merit Semifinalist and National Hispanic Scholar

I hoping to independently study four AP’s beyond the four I’m taking through school in order to achieve National AP Scholar status

Thanks.

“If you want a hook, you need to show passion and initiative. Take something you love and take it to the national or even international level. That will make you stand out.”

Scholastically, I think I’ve shown initiative. In terms of translating a passion into national or international recognition, I’m still looking for avenues to take advantage of my piano improvisation; there are few major competitions for classical improvisation.

The only truly national recognition I’ve received was for a general talent competition in eighth grade (first place in Florida, second nationally for the Junior Beta Club Convention).

Congrats on moving up to Val! That music club you mentioned earlier would probably be good. I’m thinking about making one myself, seeing as music is my main EC. What do you want this club to do? “Music” club seems very general and would probably gather a heterogeneous group of members that won’t mix.

you definitely have a decent shot at these schools.
