Interested in studying neuropsychology?

A friend of mine asked me for help for her college search, but as we have completely different interests, I don't know much about these subjects.

As neuropsychology is a pretty narrow topic, I've been looking up schools with a good biology or psych program, and it's mostly been the upper levels that have good everythings.

I'm aware that John Hopkins Uni is like THE school for medicine and biology, but it's difficult to get into.

Her numbers are 3.66 GPA, 2020 SAT I, 700 Bio, and [pending] Math 2. Over several summers she's done some enrichment programs at JHU (including AP bio) and SF Academy of Art.

Any suggestions? Women's universities are an option (perhaps even a preference) as well.

“…I’ve been looking up schools with a good biology or psych program, and it’s mostly been the upper levels that have good everythings.”

If by “upper levels” you mean the most selective schools, I think you’ll find that there there are many less selective schools that have strong departments in both biology and psychology. Several of these schools also offer interdisciplinary majors or departmental majors in neuroscience.

“…John Hopkins Uni is like THE school for medicine and biology…”
JHU is known for its highly ranked medical school. However, JHU does not necessarily have THE department for undergraduate biology. While it undoubtedly has a strong department, so do many other schools, many of which are arguably stronger

If your friend is interested in woman’s colleges, she could certainly get a good education in biology, psychology, and neuroscience at several of them. Often, admission is somewhat easier for some of these colleges as well. Check out Bryn Mawr and Mount Holyoke.

Among less selective universities with strong neuroscience programs, check out Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Colorado, UT-Dallas, U Washington, Arizona, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Penn State. Among smaller but less selective private universities, check out BU, Case Western Reserve, Brandeis, Rochester, U Miami, and Tulane.

She should look at universities that have psychobiology majors - that is the major I believe fits what she wants. And also look for a university attached to a medical school, where there is a strong neuroscience research department, and access to new imaging technologies (fMRA, pet scans, etc)
