I don’t think the campus has changed much with its change selectivity, I think people are still the same, more or less, and still care about the same things. At Pitzer what we are looking for is fit, how well do you fit into the Pitzer community. So I think while we will get more applicants we are ultimately looking for people who are better fits for the school. I think because we have always focused on fit, the campus hasn’t had any drastic changes.

Majoring in science is not difficult at Pitzer because you will be taking your classes at Keck Department of Joint Science. Keck is a top notch program, with 70-80% of premed students getting into their top 3 choice med schools. I want to say around 20-25% of PZ students major in a science, and that number has actually been growing in recent years. So while PZ is known for behavioral and social sciences, you still have a strong program at Keck with the atmosphere/life of the Pitzer community.

Thirrdplanet - My daughter is applying early to Pitzer and is very clear about being pre-med, and most likely taking more than the required schience classes. She had the same question you just posed and, after a visit and some reseach, concluded Pitzer would be a great fit for her. The Keck Center was a big part of coming to that conclusion, but the socially conscious nature of the school was also very important.

Perhaps it depends on what you want to do with science.

At the orientation session for parents of freshmen this past August, I recall the admissions director saying that among members of the class of 2016 who specified a major, a majority were in the sciences.

As the UC schools have become less desirable Pitzer’s applications have increased. So has places like Colorado College, Lewis & Clark, Occidental and Whitman. Pitzer is an AMAZING school with very nice students. Great to have a small nurturing environment within the larger context of the Claremont colleges. Can take classes in all 5 schools. Amazing food. Nice new dorms!
