I will be attending Siena college as a freshman in a few weeks and I don't necessarily want to be going to school there, but like a lot of my classmates I was lazy with my application process and didn't apply to many of the schools I wanted to.

What I would like to know is what makes a good transfer canidate? What do I need to do over the next two semesters to make transferring to NYU - Stern possible? (or any other decent city located business program)

I'm currently a dual major in Finance/Actuarial science and would like to keep that major at NYU or whatever program I decide to transfer too.. I realize Stern is one of the more competitive schools for admission so if I could even make it into the liberal arts school and take math classes from there I could easily pursue the Actuarial science concentration outside of stern.

My high school transcript is pretty average for a white male in upstate new york..
GPA 87/100
SAT 1360/1600 and 1960/2400
as well as a handful of honors and ap classes.. 3,3,5 for test scores.

Although academically my stats are pretty average my resume is quite impressive for an 18 year old due to 3 internships I pursued.. and at the start of my first semester at Siena I'll have a year experience in a Sales management position and I plan to supplement my application with a written letter from my superior outlining my experience and accomplishments and have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to write my essays.

I'll also have accumulated close to 500 hours of community service from August 2010 to august 2011... what do I need to strive for over the next two semesters to be a viable transfer candidate to trade up NYU, or another similar-strength business/math program?

I too am a about to start college in a school that I prefer not attend, and I too would love to transfer from my school to Stern.

From my understanding, you’ll need a 3.7+ College GPA, and good ECs. There have been many people I’ve seen that got accepted into NYU without sending their SAT/ACT scores. College GPA is the most important factor.

I’m not sure whether you won’t need your SATs after only 2 semesters in college. However, as a junior transfer, I know for a fact that NYU doesn’t require them.

i had a 3.97 with 36 credits from a private university and was rejected. you HAVE to complete their pre req classes or you are automatically rejected

Yes, Stern is the STRICTEST division of NYU when it comes to transfer requirements. A lot of the other schools are a little flexible, but Stern is looking for a specific class sequence. If accepted, you are basically coming into their program part of the way, and they want transfer students who can keep up. Look at the prereqs very carefully.

If I was accepted I would pay for it even with little to no financial aid… I read about 6 required courses (Expository writing, MicroEconomics, Managerial accounting, Financial Accounting, Calc 1, Statistics) Are there other prereqs besides these classes? I could have them all finished by end of my spring semester.

What you quoted only applies to freshman applicants. All freshman applicants must submit test scores. However, transfer applicants that have already completed a year, are not required to submit any test scores.

I’m not trying to argue with that statement (hell if I don’t have to submit my SAT or ACT I’m more than happy too) however I don’t see it anywhere. If you could just post a link I would greatly appreciate it.

You have to have the pre reqs done? What about for freshman? I mean I can probably get most of them out by spring semester but do freshmen get automatically turned down as well if they don’t have the pre reqs done?
