Interested Transfer Student

I am a current sophomore at UC Merced, which doesn't have my major. I managed to get a 3.5 gpa for fall semester and again in spring semester for my freshman year.

I am currently a political science major and want to go pre-law.

Would transferring to UCLA benefit me? Do I have a chance with my current gpa? What else is taken into consideration for transfer students?

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Obviously.

Not really unless you have some extreme circumstance you didn’t mention here.

3.5 is really not bad for a transfer student. I think you should definitely give it a shot. I know people that transfered from UCR and UCSB with GPA around that range.

UC Merced is on semester? What is it like there?

Yes, I think you have a decent shot with your GPA. I’ve met people that have transferred with a ~3.2 from a CC, c’mon a CC! So give it a try. Write a some good essays explaining why you would like to transfer (i.e. desired major not available, although I didn’t know there was a pre-law major? Is it like the non-existent “pre-med” major?). Good luck.

There is no pre-anything major

UCM is on a semester system just like UCB, and I know I would have to convert my semester units to quarter units (which is no problem). I am close to being done with my GE and am semi-involved in the school.

FireEmblem is right. There is no pre-anything major.
I am currently a political science major at UCM and interested in UCLA School of Law.

I read a stat from another thread (pretty sure it is totally off) but UCLA accepts 43% of UCM transfers? Or, at least did one year?

I was just wondering if anyone had any specific RELIABLE stats (or a website with stats) regarding transfer admit percentages for UCLA from other UCs.

Thank you Ektaylor. I realized shortly after my first reply that you gave me the exact information I was looking for.

dude i am a tranfer student from texas with a 3.5 gpa and i got accpeted for the the 2008 fall i think it all depends on who reads ur application and what kind of mood they are in…

community college students get precedence over 4 year transfers :frowning: it’s a lot harder to transfer from a uc or calstate than it is from a community college…
