Interesting and rather easy to get into a "sort of" BS/MD program....

It seems like any BioE premed major who gets accepted to U of Toledo can be in their BS/MD program…but they must maintain a 3.5 GPA and do the ECs/research.

However, the only assurance is an interview…not an acceptance to their med school.

Normally, whats published on the paper is a minimal requirement that most schools do not follow in reality, due to competitions. This is an interesting twist on Toledo’s BS/MD program. The key issues there will be:

  1. How many BioE students will be admitted. Normally BS/MD program do not accept a lot of students, some in the single digits, for example, Lehigh/Drexel, some more, like Brown or Northwestern. No matter, the number is not huge. But if this BioE takes in 100 to 200 students, it can't possibly accept all in to their med school.
  2. Toledo SOM normally has an average acceptance GPA of 3.7, it will be unfair for some one in their own school to be accepted in to the med school with just a GPA of 3.5, we shall see if the "interview" or weed out class is going to do the trick of reducing that group of BS/MD to a manageable number, like 10-20% of accepted SOM students. If so, that BS/MD program is meaningless in the sense most of the students will not be advanced anyway.

The Univ also has a path thru it’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

How to Apply

All interested students meeting the qualifications (3.5 GPA unweighted, 28 ACT or 1260 SAT) should take the following steps:

  1. Submit the on-line UT undergraduate application. Please refer to Undergraduate Admissions for instructions on how to apply to the University of Toledo.
  2. Apply to a major granted by one of these three colleges: College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, College of Language, Literature, and Social Sciences, or College of Communication and the Arts. Students not in a major in one of these three colleges are not eligible for participation in this program.
  3. Select the Pmed concentration code.
  4. Once you have received your acceptance letter into the UT undergraduate program you selected, apply for the BAC/MD program by completing the information form at online application form. http://www.utoledo.edu/med/md/admissions/webforms/utmedsuccess.html You will need your Rocket ID which will be in your acceptance letter.
  5. Notify the Pmed/Pden/Pvet Adviser via e-mail (Sharon.schnarre@utoledo.edu) of that you have submitted the applications for this program.

It’s easy to get into it because they’re guaranteeing essentially nothing.
