oh wow... sometims I wonder how I got in with 3.8/UW 4.2/W, 1270 SAT, 29 ACT. NO Extracurricular at all!

There must be something the girl isn't mentioning that kept her out.

Maybe her application essay sucked because she thought she had an acceptance in the bag or something.

Notice the article does not mention any SAT scores.

Wow, thats really scary. And I really want to go to UF. Why didn't that girl go to FSU instead of Central Florida?

some people would just rather go to UCF...she might have liked the campus and atmosphere better...and she lives a lot closer to orlando...plus she is prevet so it doesn't matter that FSU is a little more highly regarded

Almost of the people I know that were rejected from UF chose UCF or UM over USF. Most chose UCF because they have a better engineering program or because their intended major wasn't offered at USF. The only person I know who went to USF chose to go there after he had already been accepted to UF...i tried to convince him out of it. lol.

And I'm from the same area as Ocean (sarasota/osprey) and very few people from her school (Pine View School for the Gifted) were accepted to UF this past year, whereas most IB kids from my school were accepted. A lot of them had great SAT scores, extracurriculars, etc. My dad works at the hospital and most of his co-workers' children went to Pine View and most of them who were seniors last year were rejected, so my dad heard all of their stats/lifetime achievements/extracurriculars quite a few times. The year previously almost all of them were accepted, so it came as a pretty big shock.

I've had friends that turned down UF for FSU and FAMU(for the pharmacy program). hm...i didn't know UCF was considered better than USF?

good luck to next year applicants lol....

I think that USF is still ranked a little bit higher than UCF overall, but it differs by department/major.

also, the article mentions that less than 10% of admits had a 1300 in 1994, but doesn't take into account the SAT was RECENTERED the next year, meaning it's not adjusted to the scale that's currently used. A 1300 then is closer to a 1400 on today's version.
